Star of the Sea
This San Diego institution is considered one of the most elegant restaurants in town. Right on the water, the gourmet seafood entrees are served beautifully by a courteous staff. Enjoy lobster, scallops, shrimp and a variety of fish. The Baquietta Bass is a specialty and there is a special Chef's Tasting Menu for USD55 per person. Some might consider this spot old-fashioned but it is a great place for special occasions and parties.
This is an update to my review of 10-3-2011. It turns out that catering was provided by Festivities Catering (AKA: Picnic People, TK&A Custom Catering and Be Delish! Express). The flaws and omissions in the dinner service described in my previous post were those of the caterer. The Star of the Sea Event Center indicates that they will provide more oversight on outside caterers in the future.
We just picked this place out because it was closer to the airport - but the food was really delicious. My friend and I both had hickory smoked salmon with papaya-mango sauce, and a coleslaw with pineapple dressing that I am trying to recreate. Their citrus rice was delicious too. We didn't try shrimp, but the salmon was really good. Also fun to see the big cruise ship in the harbor.
We have been there multiple times and have almost never had the same menu choices.. Everything we have chosen so far was absolutely mouth watering. My good ol' standard creme brulee is exceptionally good there too.
Try not to eat there. I asked for shrimp and it seems I was eating smoked meat. I could feel the tast of that shrimp after 8 hours. The vegetables were not well cooked and the salad is really small.
So, for the price you are paying there, is better try lobuster in other place.
