The Med at La Valencia Hotel
La Valencia's signature Great Room restaurant reminiscent of a villa overlooking the Mediterranean Sea - this tile frescoed dining room with a grand fireplace is flanked by French doors to a sunny garden patio and canopied trellis arbor and by expansive windows framing the coastline and surf of the Pacific Ocean and Scripps Park. With its 7th floor terrace, adjacent to La V's signature La Sala Lounge, The MED features al fresco ocean dining overlooking La V's colorful gardens, sparkling pool and scenic coastline. New American cuisine takes prized inspiration from the melting pot of American culture and diversity. Executive Chef Daniel Barron uses inspiring preparations and techniques to prepare the fresh and abundant bounty found in California's farms rich with sustainable and organic providers. The seasonal fare is a captivating collection of familiar and unfamiliar dishes with unexpected ingredients served against the backdrop of the California coastline.
My husband took me here for our 5th wedding anniversary and the evening could not have been more perfect! The staff was unbelievably attentive, every detail was seen to, right down to the 5 red roses left for me (plus one extra for our little girl at home!) It was a wonderful experience and we are looking forward to going back!
I went there for a nice romantic V-day dinner experience. The staff there was very attentive, literally seating us at a window table which I had specifically requested when I made the reservation. They made sure we never ran low on the complimentary Evian water. Excellent presentation of the entree. Metal lids on both dishes and two of the wait staff lifted the lids simultaneously. Food was served at the perfectly warm temperature. Complimentary red rose was given to my girlfriend at the end of the meal. Not sure if it was just because it was around Valentine's day.
My only reservation is that the food quality isn't quite as good as Top of the Cove which is ~20% less pricey just a few buildings away. It isn't unworthy of such a high class restaurant, just not quite as good. The view at the Sky Room is as good if you're tall enough to peer much out the window. The walls being a bit high. Top of the Cove is a bit easier to appreciate the view although with the caveat that you don't get a table where one of your backs is to the view. Of course though, no complimentary endless Evian at Top of the Cove
Remember to get your valet ticket to the hotel validated at the Sky Room. Otherwise you'll be paying $7 + tip.
