Great Food * Epic Sunsets Brockton Villa is a beautiful historic home converted into a restaurant located directly across from the ocean. Our seaside location offers a spectacular view of the world-famous La Jolla Cove, and has become a favorite "show off" spot for locals and visitors alike. We are known for our breakfasts, including our famous Coast Toast. Our chef creates many other wonderful dishes seasonally for lunch and our dinner service. Our house is the perfect place for you to host your next party. Whether it be a wedding reception, rehearsal dinner, baptism, bridal shower, baby shower, or any special occasion.
I love the Brockton Villa. It is one of my favorites! Great Food, Great service and the view and location cannot be better. I have been for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner many times, and not once was I, or my guest (s) unhappy. I highly recommend the Brockton Villa!
The only reason that I give this establishment a poor and not an awful is because of its fantastic location. That being said, there was really nothing else positive about it. The portion sizes were fine, large in fact, but the food was such a disappointment. It looked fantastic, but once you started to eat it it was incredibly dried out and bland. No one was asked for more drinks or refills, we had to grab our server or someone else if we ever wanted them. We waited over 20 minutes after our meal for a dessert menu, and then after waiting almost a half an hour for a very simple dessert, we were ready to get our check and leave. Finally when the dessert came we asked for our check and our server said that she would get it but did not come back for another 10 minutes to check on how the dessert was and we had to ask her for it again. For such a cute little restaurant, it was pretty empty which did not make sense when we first got there, but as we were leaving we completely understood. While the wait staff was courteous, they were lazy, extremely inattentive, and had absolutely ZERO sense of urgency, we were pretty sure that they were all talking in the bar area amongst themselves the majority of the time instead of taking care of the few customers that they actually had. We had many other problems here as well, and while I wish I could find more positive things to say about this restaurant, I just feel as though there are so many more people out there right now without a job that would appreciate working there so much more and want to make it a much better experience for their customers. I absolutely do not recommend this place to anyone, just go to George's, you will spend the same, have just as great of a view (better if you sit outside), and your food and service will blow Brockton Villa out of the water. Or just go to the to-go Chinese food place down the street, you will save a ton of money and your food will be infinitely better. I am absolutely not trying to put a local restaurant out of business here, but I do hope the restaurant management and staff sees this and uses it as a wake up call because the problems are so fixable.
I was recently at the Brockton Villa - as usual with out of town guests. We have always enjoyed the cozy ambiance and good food, but this time was amazing! I come to find out that there is a new chef that is heading up the kitchen (also oversees their new place Beaumont's in Bird Rock)--We got the full story from our server, who was very proud of the changes...Definitely worth a visit with OR WITHOUT out-of-towners!
The restaurant is a converted cottage with some spectacular weather due to its immediate access to the beach. I felt the preparation of the food was more exciting than the food itself, the interior was old (as you would expect due to the age of the cottage), and place could be quite drafty at times. That being said, our server was helpful and the vibe is one of enjoyment and pressureless dining with the people you came with.
