I tried it recently after staying away a long time. Last time I was in there the bathroom was in deplorable condition. Sure sign of how the restaurant is kept up. This time the busser stood eating chips and dipping in salsa in the back, server area, he would open the warmer drawer get another chip and repeat. Then wiped his hands and mouth on a napking then used the same to wipe down the counter. Filled the chip drawer using his hands to spread them around, replaced napkins and utensils on tables and not once washing his hands. I asked my waitress if he had a food handlers card and she said yes. There is no way that guy ever went through a food handlers class. Playing Russian roulette with the business and customers well being. It is off my list for good.
My family and I have been regulars to LaPalapa for over twenty years. No only is the food as tasty as any Mexican resturant in San Diego County, the service and friendiness are special. I recomend this small, quaint resturant to anyone who asks.
I had heard about this place before- I was told the food was only okay but the margaritas were great. I finally went, and ordered the sour cream enchiladas and of course a margarita. In my opinion, the food was awesome and the margaritas were good, but not great.
Small and potentially intimate, but even on a Tuesday, very busy and loud! That must say something good! Also, the service was very good, esp. considering how busy they were.
I'm looking forward to going back again very soon.
Overall, 4 stars.
OMG can we just say BOMB!
margaritas are the best I ever had and no joke and very good prices you dont have to worry about over spending here no matter how many margaritas you have this place is so great! love it and food is great too hehe
You wont find a better Mexican restaurant for miles and miles! I cant even think of a better one in San Diego! This is the best hole in the wall around! The margaritas are top notch! Come in this place cause it looks like a good hole in the wall, but stay cause the food is the best around, the service is the best and the people/customers are all laid back and fun. Great happy hour in the attached bar also. When I heard a few months ago that they remodeled, I thought it was all over. But they did a good remodel job that blended into the hole in the wall appeal, you cant even tell! :) Don't ever change this place into a normal main stream restaurant or it will not be the same!
