My husband and I have adored George's throughout the years we lived in SoCal. Warm, friendly, extremely hospitable, excellent food choices were all attributes that came to mind and it was our favorite place to go, especially for special occasions. We especially loved their tasting menus. Top notch from the hostess to the bus staff!
After a stint of being out of the area, knowing that George's had gone through a major renovation in an upscale way, I couldn't wait to go back and went with a friend this time. Sorry to say that the experience left me cold. Everything had changed. No longer was it warm and inviting, but instead sophisticated over the top for my taste at least. The restaurant itself transformed into something glaring and annoying. The food I have to say was just good, but not great, and service was no longer top notch. Everything tasted fresh, but was prepared with far too much froufrou. Sometimes when you have a winning recipe, don't muck it up!
I may try again when I'm in town, but it's no longer a destination stop for me.
