Outstanding!

I'm a long time patron of Maitre d' and I believe it to be one of the finest restaurants in the West. There are limited tables, spaced for privacy and an enjoyable evening. It's a festive environment and Louie, the owner, seems to have an understanding that dining is supposed to be fun. From greeting to farewell, this is a special experience. The service is correct. No one is learning on your nickle; these are experienced and professional people that know their trade well.
The food. You will find dishes here that are more complex and not typically offered by even very fine restaurants. Salmon in puff pastry, steak Diane prepared tableside, Dover Sole stuffed with crab, etc. Deserts are also at a whole different level. Bananas Foster and Cherries Jubilee are just two of the flamed tableside wonders. Cafe Diablo is, as the name implies, a wicked coffee drink that is worth the price just to see it prepared.
Maitre d' is not cheap, nor is it stupidly expensive. I have seen restaurants with far less capability charge far more. Most people leave happy and well fed and much of their business seems to be repeat customers.
The interior surroundings of the restaurant are old world and gorgeous. Beautiful flowers are everywhere and live music is usually an accompaniment, rather than an intrusion. Magnificent crystal and china make for a beautiful setting.
