Roxy Restaurant & Ice Cream
Part of the Encinitas community since the flower power days of the 1960s and 70s, this restaurant holds a long tradition of a relaxing atmosphere and healthy cuisine. While the retro decor is no longer prominent, the vegetarian menu remains. One tofu platter combines fresh vegetables, tofu and peanuts with a garlic sauce. The Baked Mushroom and Cheese Casserole combines fresh mushrooms and pita bread with mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Top off your visit with one of the famous desserts made without dairy products.
Roxy is great for anyone who loves their veggies and hippie-style food. My favorite item here is the chef salad. It's amazing, huge, and really affordable. It includes mixed greens, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, tomatoes, avocado, olives, sprouts, chick peas, cheese, and your choice of dressing. It would easily make two meals. The falafel is also very good and my husband loves the nachos with grilled onions and mushrooms. Their guacamole is also out of this world. Service is hit or miss. Some nights it's pretty slow, but other times (typically before 6 pm) it's very good. Okay for kids too.
Very tasty food, nutritious & healthy, reasonable price, the place to meet people, or take a date. It is THE place as far as I'm concerned. Not a quiet place so much, but not loud either. Everybody I knows loves this place. Not for the McD's crowd or the pretentious type. Though I live in CO. now, so not all that familiar nowdays. For location, it's very good in value.
I'm not a vegetarian and when I go to a restaurant, I like getting my meat. When I went to Roxy's, I didn't know they didn't really serve meat. I was disappointed. The food was nothing to brag about. My vegetarian friends however love this place. The service was slow and unattentive. I wouldn't go back.
i loved how its in encinitas and a very laid back atmosphere with great food and friendly waitresses also it's great to see regulars there and the feeling of home cooked meals like lasagna your grandma would make the ice cream shoppe is also a nice addition along with the reat array of desserts to choose from the portions are large and the price is pretty cheap
