The Marine Room, La Jolla

Enjoyed Valentines at the Marine room and what a nice dinner package they put together. From tables all facing the water, sitting side by side for dining... delectable menu and great piano player.

This wasn't at all what we expected from the place that you hear so much about. Of course, the view of the ocean is fantastic but the decor looks like a 1980s hotel lobby. The staff is inattentive and confused most of the time. The food is nothing to write home about. It's amazing what a location on the beach can do for a restaurant's reputation ... it wasn't at all like I expected.

Went ahaead of their seating and sat in the lounge and had a drink, I think they almost forgot about us. Hardly anyone there yet and we waited twenty minutes past our reservation to be seated. Wife asked to be seated near a window and they agreed since it's a first come basis and they didn't even take it into account when they seated us. Asked for more bread before the main dish arrived and I never received it. Sat with an empty ice tea glass for the second half of the meal. Just not impressed. To me they seam to think they can over come their service with high class and it just doesn't work for me. The food was pretty good and the environment was nice, but for the prices I would expect a little different experience.

We went their with friends and all loved the food and desserts and loved being closer to home so appreciated not having to go downtown to enjoy a great place.

East coast couple on vacation in San Deigo stumbled upon this wonderous place last month and we are still talking about it - and the oysters. Cuisine will appeal to all palletes, and the view ist just breathtaking.

Very disappointed with the Marine Room. The interior decor needs a makeover--it is almost as if they have not renovated it in a dozen years. The food is less than impressive: dry, tough meats and seafood with combinations that do not work well together. I was unimpressed with the staff as well, very cold and unknowledgeable.

excellent service, foie gras was delicious. lunch is a great value
