Surrounded by Nature...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/1/09
Nature lovers will love staying here. The little cabins are not close together and you are surrounded by the quiet. The restaurant is homey and comfortable and everyone is friendly and helpful.

Good on their good days
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/15/08
I stayed here in one of the lodges, and it was probably one of the most secluded areas I've stayed in. Some of the lodges are adjoined, but everyone was very friendly. There are no phones or TVs in the rooms, but that is something I was looking forward, too. I did bring an AT&T cell phone, and I had full bars at this place. We went to their pub, and the bartender was very nice. She made a new drink for my girlfriend who picked it out of a book, and it was great. Other patrons were also very nice, and we met some great people. Sleeping there is very nice....no city sounds, just that of nature right out your window. We also had breakfast, and the French chef (also extremely funny and friendly), makes the food. He's a great chef, but I must say that breakfast was a little much. I think they should include it as a package for staying there. If you do go up here and the French chef is not cooking, DO NOT EAT HERE. The owner's husband cooks the food and the food is horrible and should not even be served to dogs. I had that misfortune awhile back, and don't want to repeat that. Overall, great place to stay, and I will most likely go back. The two stars it didn't get are for a non-inclusive brunch.

We will not go back
By victor, 2/6/08
There were no television sets in the rooms, and we did not know this. It was superbowl Sunday. We planned to watch the game in the pub, but were informed that the hotel shuts down on Sunday through to Wednesday and we could not watch the game. No effort was made to change these plans to take care of their guests on this special day. This facility seems to be for weddings only. The room was also drafty and there were no counter spaces in the bathroom. We had to put our bath supplies on the floor. The food was also mediocre and the service poor. This used to be a very fine facility but it is in serious decline. We moved to another very fine bed and breakfast where we were very well taken care of in every way.

We would never go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/23/07
Our cabin (North Star)was rustic, which would have been fine except that it was filthy! The exterior door to the bedroom was warped and had a gap of several inches at the bottom. Leaves and dirt had blown all over the room and we had to clean it up before using it. The bathroom had a problem with insects, probably a result of the large hole between the shower and the foundation. We would have reported it right away but everyone had left the main lodge. We had intended to stay two days but decided to leave the next morning due to the condition of the cabin. When I checked out the next morning I made the clerk aware of the problem. She didn't seem to be interested and we were still charged for the next night. The area is beautiful and there are plenty of nice places to stay at; I wish we had been fortunate and stayed at one of them. Don't believe what you see on the web-site, it is not accurate.

Fabulous new owners!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/9/07
My husband and I have been staying at Pine Hills Lodge for years and we really enjoy the new owners. They always take the time to talk with us and mingle with others. Unfortunatley, the restaurant is only open for special occasion brunches, but the food is fabulous. They are currently upgrading the cabins and they are very cozy and adorable. This makes a wonderful romantic weekend getaway or a fun retreat with the children.

We will return, this was different
By Lew, 1/2/07
Our whole family rented cabins for two days, during Christmas Holiday. The lodge resteraunt was closed. We went into Julian for meals, they did provide an adaquate continental breakfast. The lodge is a very large and nice place. We used the dining area for gatherings, this was great. The Cabins were clean and well decorated. The only complaint was our cabin had one small electric heater. It was cold outside!

Beautiful retreat in the mountains
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/12/05
This is one of the most beautiful lodges in these mountains. Pine Hills Lodge has cabins scattered throughout the property and a main lodge for more of a hotel feel. The spectacular natural stone fireplace in the lobby gives an old world feel, and on a snowy evening when the fire roars it is the coziest place in Julian. Banquets, Conferences, weddings, and a popular dinner Theater make this an ideal "retreat". The cozy rooms are beautifully appointed for a truly lovely week end experience. PROS: Excellent service, gorgeous secluded setting among tall pines. CONS: none noted

What Happened
By Tylor, 7/31/05
Poor place! Under new management/owners. The glorious fireplace no longer has the initials from 1912 on as it has been painted over. Cabins are dirty. Plumbing is backed up. Restaurant is always closed now. No on-line booking. Dinner theater is closed. Needs new owners! Please bring back this wonderful place full of history! What happened?

Planning to have our wedding here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/3/05
Have stayed here now three times, offers both seclusion and is in quick driving distance 3-4 miles of lovely Julian Ca. The restuarant has variety and eveything we have tried has been outstanding. pool is scenic but not heated so choose your weekends for swimming. over all an awesome getaway.
