Armenian Cafe (The)
The Armenian Cafe serves Middle Eastern cuisine on an outdoor patio. Most guests opt to dine on the porch, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. On Friday and Saturday nights, enjoy live belly dancing entertainment. Belgian Waffles top the breakfast menu. For an elaborate breakfast, top your waffle with fruit, ice cream, whipped cream and syrup. Later in the day, consider the Spinach Bereg Platter. Phyllo dough is stuffed with spinach and cheese, then baked and served with rice pilaf and cucumber and yogurt dip.
Delicious food, one of the best meals I've ever had dining out. It seems to be very popular so I'd recommend getting there before you're hungry so you can bare the wait. There is a bell to ring on your way out if you enjoyed your meal, a nice touch, and often sounding.
Overall, this is great place. We have tried many selections from the breakfast menu and all of them are excellent choices. The location is perfect and the prices are very reasonable. Service is slow and can be indifferent. Not very complimentary of the warm location.
This place has been a favorite of my wife's and mine for 6 years. We heard the property has been sold to make way for a large hotel chain; we can only hope the restaurant owner will reopen in a new place. The dessert Kataif is to die for. This is a special place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great food and wonderful place to sit and have a glass of wine. The service is about the worst we have ever experienced. We have given them several opportunities in the hopes of just a bad day...however, they seem to be all bad.
anyone speaks bad about this restaurant is not playing with a full deck. one of the best places to dine in carlsbad. excellent food, excellent quality, excellent service (so what if you have to wait a bid if the line is all the way out the door). prices are very reasonable. Breakfast is the best ever. Dinner and live entertainment on the weekends is one of a kind. Totally ocean view indoors and outdoors. i love their armenian beer. I highly recommend this place to all.
We are locals in carlsbad and we have dined at the armenian cafe many many times. This restaurant/cafe has been in our town for over 15 years now. The owners are such beautiful people, very hospitable. You feel like you are at home. Breakfast is to die for. their lunch and dinner menu is almost the same, the food is just top notch quality. we havn't had any bad experience. Portions are great. Prices are reasonable. The service is great. I have taken many friends and business associates. I love their entertainment too. They have belly dancing and a musician playing the keyboard and singing in many languages on the weekends. Sunday Brunch is a hit, live music and excellent menu. The place is always packed. their food always tastes Fresh. Sometimes we have waited longer than the usual for the food to arrive but when you see a line of people waiting all the way to the street, you can understand why.
The place is great. The food is quite good. The only thing I would say is go a little easy on the salt in the Taboule and don't be too shy about putting some extra tomatoes in there. Otherwise, definitely worth the visit, even on a foggy day, especially if you add a bottle or 2 of authentic Armenian beer to the meal.
First off the place was phenomenal when it comes to the view, ambience, food, etc..... There were around 7 of us on a Sunday (1/29/06 11:15 am). We decided to sit outside in the back. The food was excellent (I had the Greek Lamb with Eggs). Mmmmmm.....
Now lets talk about the service. It took about 15 minutes before the drinks we ordered came to our table (coffee & juice) and an additional 5 minutes to get our creamer & sugar (after we decided to go get it ourselves from another table). We asked for refills several time (3 or 4) and finally after about an additional 10 minutes the waitress came back with some burnt, cold/warm coffee (not Mmmmmm...)
One of my friends asked a waitress (after about 50 minutes of waiting, yes we timed it) where our food was & she proceeded to tell my friend that she wasn't our waitress & they were down to only 2 cooks that day so it should be along any minutes.
Overall, the restaurant experience was terrible despite the delicious food. It was 80 minutes of feeling unwelcomed & we felt bothersome to the staff. Luckily, I drove all the way from San Diego to visit with my friends so the wait wasn't a bother to me. Maybe, just maybe I caught them on a bad day (there was a help wanted sign in the window). But there is still no place for rudeness or bad service in the restaurant industry. I am going to give the place one more shot but I really going to go to the Cafe without any expectations.
The Food Oracle
The location is beautiful, the food is the best and the service is excellent. I happened upon the cafe one Christmas day looking for an open place to eat and fell in love. Any time I am in Southern Cal, I make it a point to stop at the Armenian Cafe for a bite to eat.
