try the Lobster
Rio Rico is a small mexican restaurant hidden in the back of what's essentially a strip mall near the Bonsall Chamber of Commerce. Not exactly haute cuisine, but, not bad for a local mexican food joint.
We brought the kids this sunday and had no trouble getting a table for 6. The kids, being creatures of habbit, all ordered cheese enchiladas with rice and beans and seemed to enjoy them.
I opted for the Carnitas a la Tejana, which was a lot of food, and O.K., but, not great. It was a little dry for my taste. I know carnitas tend to be dry, but, this was a little hard to get down. The flavor was right on the mark. At $17, I expected it to be a little better.
My wife had the lobster special. This consisted of 2 broiled lobster tails with vegetables. It was really good. Lobster is so easy to overcook, and, I've found is almost ALWAYS overcooked in mexican restaurants. Overcooking causes the meat to become dry and tough. This, on the other hand, was delicate, tender, moist, and delicious. At $29, I thought this was a good deal for well prepared lobster.
To top off the experience, my wife and I shared a margarita in a 48oz goblet that resembled a medium sized fish bowl. total ticket for a family of 6 was $109.
