Lousy service had to walk out after waiting 30 minutes for a seat. Better be blonde with blue eyes if you want anykind of service in this place. Spent money next door had a much nicer crowd and delicious food. Stay away from Jakes although they have a nice view just a poorly run buisness......

I started with the cauliflower bisque. It had so much garlic that you couldn't taste the cauliflower. My entree was a stuffed pork chop. The chop was okay but I wouldn't pay 30 bucks for it. My wife had shrimp scampi but it was all butter and no flavor. If you want shrimp scampi go to Red Lobster theirs is actually better. For a excellent pork chop (albiet not stuffed) go to MZM Seacoast Bistro in Imperial Beach. Jake's was all view and ambience with inferior food.

They have the best mai tais and hula pie. Just like going to Hawaii. Also order the fresh fish, because they prepare it perfectly every time, and I don't normally eat fish, but I will here.

Excellent service and delicious food! Had the scallops and friend had the scampi. Great view and Chart House decor. Great happy hour is the hot ticket- 4-6 p.m and especially on Tues. and Wed. more goodies at almost half off! And, specialty beers and cocktails too! Take the train (when it is scheduled to stop there) and walk over to restaurant!

Visited Jake's for an anniversary last night for the first time and was quite impressed. Food was excellent! had the crabcake appetizer and filet for meal and both were fantastic! View is excellent. Recommend going right when they open to get the best table and stay for the sunset. Our server was the best. I believe his name was Greg.

My lobster tails were still frozen, my husband's scampi was tasteless, it seemed to be boiled in water and sprinkled with paprika. The vegetables were hard and tasteless as well. The clam chowder was good.

We dined last night at Jake's Del Mar during their Restaurant Week fixe-prix menu special. Our reservations were honored immediately -- no waiting at all for us, even though there were other parties of hopeful diners in the entryway. From their special menu, we chose the crabcake appetizer and the apple walnut baby greens salad. Both were outstanding. The crabcake was huge and full of meaty crab. Even the next day, when I reheated the half crabcake I took home, this dish was wonderful. My preference would have been for the crabcake to be a bit crispy on the outside (this one was softer), and perhaps a bit more prominent taste of seasonings and celery, but boy was it good anyway! The salad was also large and delicious. Warm bread was great. Our entree choices were the seared ahi and the salmon. I did not taste the ahi because it was -- as designed -- mostly raw inside, but was told it was very good and the portion was large. For me, the salmon was undercooked and I sent it back twice because while the inside was juicy, it was also barely lukewarm compared to the hot exterior. The chef must be adverse to cooking any fish medium. Perhaps another factor was that the warm fish was served atop a cold medly of seafood and vegetables. The salmon was listed as "tangerine roasted," but I didn't taste any citrus flavor. Both entrees would have been better balanced with a side of mashed potatoes or a similar starch. For dessert, the rich chocolate cabernet cake was dense and fudgy. On the other hand, the apple tart tatin could have used more cinnamon for my taste. Service was pleasant and attentive. Our leftovers were carefully boxed and bagged when brought back to our table. Even at dark, Jake's illuminates the beach and waves on their west side, making for a scenic dining experience. Parking can be tight, keeping the valet service busy. I would recommend this restaurant to diners who are comfortable with their price level, which seems average for the upscale Del Mar area. Restaurant Week helped us enjoy a fine meal a bit closer to our budget.

The food wasnt as good as you would think with the prices your paying. I compared it to Hotel food. The steak was burnt and raw inside (i ordered Med-Well). The soup was ok, the service ok, the scene is nice, of course you cant mess that up. For the price you're better off with Pacifica Del Mar or Jack's La Jolla.
