ATTITUDE, ATTITUDE, ATTITUDE!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AT THIS PLACE! VERY POOR SERVICE TEAM with an hidden agenda. Very hostile people work here at this restuarant. The service crew is simply demoralizing, diabiolical, sarcastic and greedy. They don't Like WHITE people either. IT'S ONE OF THOSE PLACES. They are overtly hostile and manipulative, They want you to buy up the menu, SHUT your mouth, and tip bigger than 20%. Very HOSTILE and DISREPCTFUL crew here. I have had very bad treatment from their crew. Don't bother going to this restaurant. I worked for the company long ago when it was called fidels. Now, the waiters could care less about you, they just want your money LINING THE INSIDE OF THEIR POCKETS AT THE END OF THE DAY. WHAT A SHAME!! AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!! GO TO THE SOLANA BEACH RESTAURANT INSTEAD IF YOU HAVE TO.
I used to be a regular NORTE CARLSBAD, but no more. the food has tasted less and less like the old fidels, cold stale chips, watery salsa, smaller burrito portions. ONE THING YOU WILL GET ALOT OF THOUGH, ATTITUDE, ATTITUDE, ATTITUDE!!!
loved the place until one of the owners is trying to date my girlfriend, get a life you are almost fifty. Its one thing to be nice to your staff, but flirting and dating younger women who are half ur age is bad for business
Fidels rocks! I have been a loyal customer for years and years! Well, about 11-12 years solid! I moved away to Texas and we don't have good mexican food out here, but everytime I go back home, Fidels is on my top list of things to do. In all my years I have never had a bad drink, meal or service. It's a laidback, friendly place to eat or have drinks with friends or family. I am sad to see all the negative reviews lately. Must be some real high maintnance beechez! Seriously I have eaten at every mexican place in SD and all over the country and Fidels ranks pretty high up there. There salsa does not taste like tomatoe sause at all! That's a lame thing to say! I have told so many people to go there just for their salsa! It's not your average pace picante salsa that most places serve! If you've ever been down to Baja you will know what I mean and can understand the difference between authetic and non. You'll then appreciate Fidels for it's unique recipes and embrace the wonderful place that it is.
I was part of a large family gathering this Afternoon, and it was very disappointing. Out of 10 of us there, no one was happy with their meal. Saveral had to send their food back, and the others got the wrong meals they had ordered. One of the Burrito's was so hard, they couldn't cut through it. The chicken Quesidilla had one piece of chick in it. I ordered fish tacos, and got chicken. Either the whole staff was stoned, or no one cared what was going on, probably no manager. I'll certainly never go back, and I would certainly not recommend it. It was horrible. I don't see them in business much longer. They need to close up.
LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Best mexican food in downtown Carlsbad. For those reviews saying the food has changed, you are obviouly not used to authentic mexican food. The food has not changed at all in all the years I have been going there. Do us locals a favor and go somewhere else if you are unable to appriecate good food. I recommend the ckicken and rice soup,or the tostada suprema and of course to wash it all down a orange caddilac margarita. The street tacos in the bar are great too.
For those who don't know, Norte has NOT changed hands, only shortened the name. The Montanez family has managed and owned this restaurant for over 40 years. They love their loyal regular customers and new customers as well. The recipes are traditional and consistant. The cantina has HAPPY HOUR EVERYDAY, with the most awesome soft tacos ever!
Occasionally a customer runs across disappointment but the management staff is ALWAYS willing to fix a problem.
Norte, aka Fidel's, is good if you like mediocre Mexican. Unfortunately, nothing I have ordered here has been very good, and I've been a few times. The one exception is their flan, which is super thick and amazing. Unless you are ordering dessert, I would stick with the other Mexican restaurants nearby like Cessy's, Garcia's, or El Puerto.
