Norte Mexican Food & Cocktail, Carlsbad

Just got back from Norte (used to be Fidel's) a Mexican Restaurant in Carlsbad. Sad to report that my experience was very unhappy - the food here used to be good. The have changed hands and now the restaurant is just called Norte, and the food is tragic! The restaurant has a great location and the ambiance at the outdoor seating is wonderful. The margaritas are good, but its hard to get past poor quality food. The salsa is like tomato sauce, the entrees are gloppy, the beans worse than canned. I would skip this unless you just want to sit outside and have a drink.

Three strikes and Fidels is OUT with us! Blah food. Poor service.

I've been going to Fidel's for many years now and it's always delicious. But the last few times the servers have been really abrupt and rude. Maybe it's the staff right now-- they are not very helpful (simply not getting waters for a while, then bringing them all without ice). It was just not worth it...!

We ate at Fidel's (Carlsbad) on this Mother's Day (May, 2008) and were very disappointed. One of the entrees was swimming in grease and had to be returned. The other dishes were mushy and the fajitas were not worth the money. We definately would not return since there are many other Mexican restaurants much better. Don't waste your time or money at this place.

real authentic. great family atmosphere

This is the best Mexican restaurant in the area. The individuals who stated otherwiise obviously did not know what they were looking for or wnated to have for a night out. The atmosphere is romatic conveniently located by the ocean. The food is very good in quality and quantity and the people who work there are very pleasant and eager to please. It would be nice if the restaurant could expand as the wiat can be long at times, however, this can be expected when one wants to enjoy a romantic and entertaining evening or a simple lunch on the weekend. I strongly recommend this reataurant to anyone.

Great food, drinks , and atmosphere. Been going with extended family for about 20 years now, never been disappointed. Best authentic mexican food in San Diego and beyond. Now live out of state but go once or twice every trip out. Servers also great and just a plain fun time for all ages.

i love this place!! best cheese crisps EVER!! if you like mexican food and enjoy being right by the beach...this place is for you!! great location, food, staff and perfect atmosphere!

We've been going to Fidel's for at least fifteen years. They have the best carnitas on either side of the border. Happy hour margaritas and appitizers are great deal. Sit outside on the patio,sip a margarita, and after dinner take a walk along the blvd or just sit on a bench and watch the sun set.
