This place has the WORST Egg Foo Young I have EVER had. The gravy was like a tasteless jelly, the egg was covered in flour (or something) and could have passed for a BAD pancake, and the pork was TOUGH.
For $7.95 - I fed it to my dog.
She liked it.
I agree with Jennifer. This used to be the best chinese food around..I too grew up eating from this restaurant @ least 2x a month...and now sadly with the new owners the food isn't even half as good as before. The food is dry..the prices are high...not somewhere i'd want to eat from!!
This place has the best Chinese food ever! The restaurant changed ownership long time ago but it since has improved. The food is soo freaking good that my boyfriend and I drive from Anaheim just to get it! The eggrolls have always sucked and I never get them. However they have the BEST orange peel chicken, the kung pao chicken is great and the lo mein noodles are yummy. Everything is cooked to order and fresh. Plus the portions are really big at a great price, I don't know what the last girl was expecting, but when you order a dish it takes up the box. We have so much foor between those three items that we normally get a second meal out of it and my boyfriend loves to eat! I highly recommend this place.
Growing up in Walnut in the 80's & 90's, Walnut Tree was the only Chinese Restaurant in town. As an adult, all of my chinese food experiences were compared to Walnut Tree. When I'd come back to town, I would go there and order their Chicken Fried Rice and Egg Rolls. They were excellent.
Then one sad day, my sister and I went to get some chinese, and something was very very wrong. For one, the prices were much higher than normal. Ok, so they raised their prices. We still couldn't wait to get back to dad's and have our dinner. Then, when we opened up the food, the egg rolls were different... they looked like the run of the mill crappy egg roll you'd find at a generic Happy Wok or Panda Express - even worse, they TASTED generic! What was going on? The portions were smaller, the food was expensive and they changed the recipes?? When dad got home and we told him what happened, he said that Walnut Tree was under new ownership, and after HIS bad experience, he hadn't gone back in months.
Well all of this was at least 5 years ago, and I am still bummed. I miss my old favorite Chinese place, and resent the new owners for changing a good thing. :( Harumph!
