We're regular customers at the Montclair, Ca Elephant Bar. We found their 'happy hour' margaritas to be lacking in alchohol, told the bar waitress, Jennifer, who informed the manager. Steve, the manager, came to our table and told us the happy hour drinks had the least amount of booze, and if we wanted a stronger drink, to order the premium drink. We felt that, with his manner and lame explanation, the he basically told us 'tough stuff- you get what you pay for' and walked away. I was so upset that I was gathering my belongings to leave, but Jennifer, who had taken our first order, came to our table to explain that the bar equipment was malfunctioning and she would bring us a better drink. With that, we stayed for dinner, during which Jennifer again returned to our table with coupons and Passport Club and Safari Club rewards- she went to great effort to calm our dissatisfaction and encouraged us to return. She knew we are regular customers of this restaurant and wanted us to come back again. The manager Steve, on the other hand, made us feel very unwelcomed and cheap, as though it was unrealistic to expect notable alchohol in a happy hour drink. The fact was that the equipment in his bar failed. Because of the effort Jennifer made to address our concerns over the quality of the margarita as well as our response to the insults weilded by Manager Steve, we will return and will request her as our server. However, we will call ahead and make certain that this particular manager is not on duty that night. He lacked hospitality and manners. The meal was excellent, the service was fine, but the atitude of the manager was very poor.
