Vivian's Millennium Cafe
This tiny diner offers some truly delicious home-cooked meals at very affordable rates. That, plus the service, makes it one of the nicer spots for breakfast, lunch or dinner in the area. The clientele is largely comprised of dancers from the next-door dance studio, so don't be surprised by the amount of spandex when you enter. The meatloaf is a favorite, as is anything on the regularly-changing "special" board. The eatery also offers a nice selection of fruit-based shakes and smoothies.
NEVER AGAIN! We've been eating here regularly for a few years. We wasted AN HOUR there on Saturday being told the wait was 20 minutes when it clearly was not. We are no strangers to waiting for a table here, it's no problem - but just tell us the truth so we don't waste our time. Defeated and STARVING - We went to Studio Cafe on Colfax & Ventura instead - and I'm never looking back! Same prices, better food & big enough where you may never wait... AND they had football on inside.
Sorry Vivian's - your loss!!!!!!!! Don't mess with a pregnant lady and her breakfast.
I thought the food was terrific--delicious and well-done. Service was excellent. However, parking is non-existent and inside (it was cold out) is very, very noisy. And this was on a day when there was only one other occupied table.
I found this little breakfeast cove once a long time ago. It's one of the best places in the valley to get your morning started off right. I love just about everything on their extensive menu.
From omletes to scrabbles, fruit to the yummy banana pancakes... theres something for everyone. I took my boyfriend there for the first time, and he has fallen in love with the pancakes. the staff is friendly, fast, and great! the atmosphere is chill and quite homey.
I recommend the little wait to sit in the back patio. On a nice spring/ summer day its worth it. Shady, and breezy. over all... LOVED IT!!!
Love Vivians. Just a simple neighborhood hang with above average breakfast and lunch menu. I totally recommend the 7 grain pancakes, the bagel and lox plate, and the house omlete (avocado, chicken breast with melted cheese on top). A couple of other good items are the Cafe presse style coffee and the side of sauteed broccoli. Sit in the back under the canvas awning, the front section is a little bland.
A big plus is the staff. They have great table side manner, very quick and solicitous. Talkative if you want, but happy to just get on with it, if not.
Once thing that really, to me, showcases the homey unprepossed personality of the joint is that if you are there after the breakfast rush, you might see one of the kitchen staff sitting at a table having their meal. To me, that is just a perfect symbol of the lack of pretense.
ALWYS VISIT VIVIAN'S WHEN I GO BACK TO CALIFORNIA. BEST FOOD EVER - ESPECIALY THE HOME-MADE SOUP AND THE BREAKFAST IS TO DIE FOR!!!!!! THANKS FOR THE GREAT MEMORIES OF WONDERFUL TIMES AT YOUR ESTABISHMENT. VICKY
We stumbled across Vivian's a couple of years ago while trying to locate a place for breakfast before heading to Universal Studios. What a lucky find. The breakfast was great, reasonably priced for So Cal and the staff very nice. Our server suggested the banana pancakes as they are a specialty of the place and she said they were the best. Boy howdy she was right! They were so good we went back the next morning for more of the same (I suggest one person order the banana pancakes and the other something else and then sharing everything - although there are only two pancakes they are BIG and plenty for two to share). We especially like the fact that dogs are allowed outside on the patio (we had our little doxie traveling with us). I've since taken a friend there and suggested the place to other friends and all agree it's terrific. Vivian's is just a short 1/2 mile or so from Universal and it sure beats having breakfast at Citywalk or a hotel. Viva Vivian's!
