Rive Gauche is on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks. It is very convenient to both the San Fernando Valley and the Westside, for anyone coming over Laurel Canyon, Coldwater or Sepulveda. The ambiance is very inviting, with the bar and lounge more like sitting in the living room or den of a very large house. There's a cozy fireplace along with overstuffed chairs and love seats for friendly togetherness. The French menu of crepes or quiche provides a nice dining touch that is light yet satisfying.
I hate to be defensive from that last review, but it's an unfair review in my opinion. I too, am a young 30 something professional,(like that means something.) This is one of my favorite spots, and one of the few authentic French restaurants you can find in the city. The prices are reasonable, the food is tre bien, and the decor reminds me of theold style east coast restaurants. Very romantic in the evenings too!
I went to this restaurant with 3 of my 30-something friends -- all young professionals. We were definitely younger than all of the other patrons. The decor was terrible: Flowered carpet was in need of a good steam cleaning, The chairs were uncomfortable, Tabletops do not have proper linens (instead they are covered in glass), Menus are worn, Bathrooms are outside. The service was surprisingly slow considering how few people were in the restaurant. The price is about $25 for an entree. Most importantly, the food: ranged from average to terrible. My meal's mushroom sauce did not pair well with the rest of the food on the plate, and I ended up waking up in the middle of the night with a stomach ache. Overall, 4 out of 4 people did not have a good experience.
The experience was unforgetable to say the least. We have been to this restaurant numerous times and have always had a good experince. This past time was just awful. the waiter seemed overwhelmed and uninterested. We had a large party and the staff was not accomdating. We had to ask numerous times just for water until a busboy finally brought it. The manager came by and was very rude to our party. The worst customer service I have ever encountered.
I highly recoomend other restaurants in the area with better service, food, and ambience.
This place was just awful.
While primarily a natural foods restaurant, it does have a separate area where you can just come in and buy
groceries. These, of course, consist of delicious home baked breads, healthy and delicious pastries, desserts and salad dressings. The ...
If you haven't been to Costa Rica recently, this faux jungle will seem like the real thing. Although it's a
restaurant, too, the bar scene takes over once the kitchen closes at 10 p.m.. Then the wildlife fills the ...
