I guess we went on a bad day...the head chef must have quit. It took 50 minutes for our food to come out for lunch. I think the servers just knew it was going to be a bad day and just gave up. The quality was okay, but the service was absolutely lousy. People were walking out and we almost did the same. I think this place is better than the experience we had today but it was the 1st time we went there and probably the last time we'll go there. Not a good first impression.
I LOVE this place...a great neighborhood eatery with delicious specials and reasonable prices. Most people's favorite salad (including another reviewer!) is the special chopped - and it's mine too! - and there are plenty of great entree options as well. My favorite sandwich is the chicken sesame...and every pasta dish I've tried is good! Plenty of parking (garage in back, or street), quick and friendly wait staff...I take non-Valley friends here all the time!
I have been going to Nicola's Kitchen since it has been open. It's good and a great value The special chopped is my fovorite and, as I have obsersed, everyone elses. If I get it to go, I get the large with a bowl of corn chowder and split it with my wife. A great dinner for under $20. All the main dishes can be split if you add a salad. The service is fast. The owner, John is there all the time and keeps adding specials to keep the menu fresh. Nice small inexpensive wine list.
Their bbq chicken salad is the best! Love it - and their bread is fabulous. The staff is hit or miss but mostly hit. Wish I didn't feel so cramped. Don't go there if you want a private and/or intimate conversation.
