The Smith Brothers bring you American comfort food at its best. Our menu features iron skillet cornbread, homemade chicken pot pie, BBQ baby back ribs, and more. Smitty's has always been defined by comfort, from the cozy booths and inviting bar, to the helpful staff who welcome each of our guests home.
We have eaten at Smitty's for years and will not be returning. Our waiter was slow to take our drink and lunch order, which he committed to memory, rather than writing it down. Not surprisingly, he forgot my cornbread appetizer and forgot my husband's no-salt request on his fries. When he was flagged down, be brought the cornbread when I was halfway through with my salad. It was lukewarm and without the usual accompanying butter. When I requested butter, he promptly forgot and had to be reminded. My husband's prime rib sandwich, which he always orders, was dry this time and strangely seasoned as if to mask staleness. The server today was detached, perfunctory, forgetful and lacked the polish of the usual servers, who all seem to have been replaced. Not a very satisfying dining experience for the cost.
My wife and I just finished working on a Rose Bowl Parade float and not knowing the area, stopped in Smitty's by accident. I should have more accidents like this one. I come from the midwest where Old Fashions are the order of the day, but the drink I had at Smitty's was the best I had ever had. Great deep fried onion strings. And the chicken pot pie, I could not eat it all and would have been enough for two or three people, Service was excellent and we can't wait to come back to Pasadena, just to eat at Smitty's.
At Smitty's grill, I always get above and beyond service, great friendly and cozy ambiance and delicious classical food. Although some of the other posters have had bad experiences and I sympathize with them, I have to say that has not been our experience. I have always had a really great experience with Smitty's.
Positives include: huge portion size, always friendly and attentive waiters, comfort food menu
Negatives include: only valet parking (not THAT big of an issue) You can either prepare a small tip for the valet or just try to find street parking and walk a bit.
* It is always best to make a reservation at Smitty's, although not necessary, by any means. Consider asking for one of the booths that line the wall (which are much roomier and comfier than other tables.
The food is tasty and attractively presented (a little pricey), the service is attentive and polite, but...
...the kitchen staff don't provide an acceptable level of quality control. I've been there several times for dinner with my family, and enjoyed it, until the last time when I ordered the braised lamb shank on a bed of lentils. The kitchen didn't bother to wash or sort the lentils, so when I bit into a spoonful, a big chip of my front tooth broke off on the chunks of gravel intermingled with the legumes.
It was kind of expensive to get the tooth ground down, and it still has a chunk missing. Despite the good work the Smith brothers do with most of their restaurants (such as the Arroyo Chophouse), they haven't succeeded in bringing Smitty's to the very minimum acceptable level of quality control in food preparation. I won't be back.
I just had my 21st B-Day here and I would like to thank Kati Pusch, Manager of Smitty's Grill for accomodating our needs every step of the way. The service, food and decor here was very nice and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Their Ribeye steak was pretty good and you must order their cream of corn because it was very good there.
I've been to this restaurant a number of times and ordered quite a few of the items. They're known for their meatloaf and cornbread (and both are great), but the best dish is their ribeye. I have been to many steakhouses and thus far, no one's rib-eye even comes close to the flavor that Smitty's rib-eye has.
