McKenna's on the Bay
A classic seafood and steakhouse, we feature the freshest seafood obtainable, a daily harvest of fresh oysters from around the globe, and only certified all natural Angus Beef. Located on Alamitos Bay, this is the place to be. Our wood fired open broilers convey a natural feel of old time sailing lofts.
Ambience is good, and the waiter was extremely attentive. The disappointing meals included entrees of scallops drenched in butter w/ a sticky gooey side of infused truffles,an entree of halibut and pine nuts and rice ( served cold). I couldn't eat this fare and my friend was sick for hours afterward. The hard crusted bread was excellent. I blew 100.20 dollars on this meal. You will enjoy this restaurant if your objective is drinking. If good food is your primary objective, do yourself a favor, and skip McKenna's On The Bay.
What a disappointment. This place has much to be desired in the way of guest service. The only good thing going for this place is the great view from the outdoor patio. The quality of food is just average. No wow factors taking place in this kitchen. The menu is way overpriced for the portion size of the food items. How unfortunate the original owner of this establishment has sold the operation to new owners
The two times I have dined here under the new ownership 3 Key Factors in great service have Never Occurred: 1) the prompt, initial acknowledgment or greeting from the server once you are seated 2) the all important follow-up to check on your meal shortly after you have began eating and 3) prompt expediting with presenting and transacting your check. The front-of-the house staff needs some serious hands-on training.
I've been to McKenna's on numerous ocassions and have enjoyed myself each time. My favorite dinner dish is the halibut but their appetizers are great also. The outdoor patio is perfect on a warm evening, except that I miss the fire pit. Everyone is always very nice and accommodating.
What a wonderful afternoon at McKenna’s . . . jumbo shrimp cocktail and the shrimp are actually really “jumbo”. Excellent selection on the menu Service was five star. The Holiday decorations really set the mood for our party!
I found out when calling for reservations ask when the sun will be setting. They’ll give you the exact time.
On a sunny Sunday afternoon I took my cousin and mother to McKenna's. We had a very nice table with an excellent view of Alamitos Bay. I started off with an Amstel Light and then ordered salmon, which was grilled perfectly and tasted great! Several sailboats, yachts and ships passed by the window which created a pleasant atmosphere that my relatives really enjoyed. The staff was nice, I guess? I would go back again, but probably just to the bar for drinks. There is an excellent patio section outside that is perfect for small groups to order appetizers while drinking beer and wine.
Wonderful atmsophere ! Old Fogies, Stay away, might be a bit too noisy for you. If you're young at heart and want to share time with friends and family this is the place to be. The lounge and patio area are perfect for watching the boats sail by in Alamitos Bay. Excellent entertainment and special events make this a must place to dine and have fun. The appetizer menu is awesome! Fresh fish daily is always prepared to your liking and wonderful. There is not a prettier setting in Long Beach. Enjoy!!
