Johnny Reb's Southern Roadhse, Long Beach

I had the Catfish, Dirty Rice, Mac & Cheese, Fruit, and Hush Puppies plate with a Cherry Lemonade. Everything was good except for the Mac & Cheese and the Hush Puppies. The Catfish was seasoned and fried to perfection. I will defiantly be going back whenever I'm in the area!

I gave it 4 stars for atmosphere , in part. I like the catfish and the salad, did not like the blackeyed peas, or greens...I thought the latter was bitter. Just a fun place! Great peanuts on the tables, you throw the shells on the floor.....(I feel somehow bad, doing that though ;-) ) Very friendly , happy service.

Great bbq is subject to opinion. Lucilles, claim jumper, harrys, woodys, all good, some like one over the other, but I just found my favorite. As soon as I opened the door, and saw peanut shells on the floor, I knew. Reminds me of my days in mississippi. Great fall off the bone bbq, the sides were good, hush puppies, and great service. So you don't have to put up with woodys u know what kind of attitude, or pay ridiculce prices a lucilles or claim jumper. Harrys is good, but I prefer jr's now.

I actually really like this place. Very downhome for those who like it. Atmosphere is really kick back. Kind of small though.

Try Johnny Rebs' breakfasts. Tasty egg dishes, Southern style smoked ham (among other types), biscuits and gravy, etc. Great restaurant. We have dined there since it opened years ago. The peanuts in the shell on each table are complimentary, but it is hoped that diners will leave a little something in the jar for charity. It is tradition there to toss the peanut shells on the floor.

Been going to the LB location for maybe 15 years. Was introduced to this little gem by my dad's fellow officers and absolutley must reccomend the BBQ Pork Omlette. When my dad retired from the force, he moved blocks away from the Orange location :) It is fun, not your chain-restaurant, and the gang remember you. Good food, great smells, and more than you can eat.

From the time you walk in the door until you leave it is an experience that can only be found a J.R's. The food and the service are great. I've been a customer for 20 years and look forward to the next 20!

OK, I have lived in Southern CA for a long time and this place is like a staple! The environment is very southern, with the nicest staff you would ever meet. The food is wonderful, and I have tried various items on the menu. I am unsure of why this is not one of the top rated places to eat on L.A. Search! Please add this restaraunt to your list, me and my friend, family and co-workers love it!
