Papalucci's is located in the heart of Belmont Shores in Long Beach. It specializes in delicious pizza, savory pasta and filling calzones. It also has prices that can't be beat. Everything on the menu is well-prepared and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is charming. You can enjoy your pizza while watching the people walk down busy Second Street. Afterwards, head out to one of the local bars and make a night of it. Call ahead for more information.
Loved this place!! It's my favorite Italian restaurant in LB. The food is great and the servers are very attentive. I've been there many times, have tried everything from the pizza to the pasta and have never been disappointed.
There are way better places on 2nd street. They put a side of angel hair with maranara sauce with my chicken picatta that came with a butter sauce and server was not willing to change it. Told me next time I come to ask for that, which I would have if it was mentioned on the menu. Also if you like listening to an old man whistle high pitch noises the entire time you are eating, this is the place. Was very stuffy in there too. I obviously didn't have a good experience.
Magnificent! I love this place. Best garlic rolls in the world. Calzones are amazing. Pizza is great too.
My only minor complaint is the one cook always seems pissed off like the soup nazi. Give him a raise or something.
Dan and Anne Tarantine have created a superb culinary Italian experience with Papaluccis. If you are up in Pasadena, visit their other restaurant as well...Tarantinos Pizzeria. Don't miss out here in Long Beach...order the white pizza, garlic twist appetizers, and save room for the award-winning cheesecake (even if you don't like cheesecake, you will be overwhelmed with this amazing dessert). Bon Appetito!
Hard to figure out what door to go into....but once inside is very quaint, checkerboard tablecloth Italian family eatery....Amazingly good food and more than you can handle portions at a very reasonable price...was a little apprehensive regarding ambiance until the food arrived....then all was right in the world...cant wait to go back
I really like how the place is set up. The lighting is wonderful. Trust me this is the only 5 star quality Italian food you will find at these prices. They have wonderful kid size porportions. This is THE BEST place to take a date after a walk on the beach and a little shopping. :C)
We hadn't been to Papalucci's in about a year and a half and stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. The fact there were only two other people in the restaurant should have been our first clue as busy as Second Street was. My friend wanted to substitute a white sauce (which you know was already made) for the red. We were told that would be a $3.00 charge. I've never known that to happen in Papalucci's before. The bruschetta, which used to be be fresh, looked and tasted like a frozen snack straight out of the microwave. I ordered the chicken caciatore, which had four chicken cubes (I counted) over a huge plate of pasta and mushrooms. Hardly worth the price.
The staff I typically remember in the restaurant weren't there. The service was terrible. Having to flag the waiter down for water and refills, having our salads served before the appitizer, only added to the mediocre food quality and experience. Not once did the waiter ask us how our meal was.
All in all, this dining experience was very disapointing. I doubt I will patronize this restaurant in the future. There are plenty of other retaurants in Belmont Shore and other quality Italian restaurants in Long Beach that will get my time, support, and service in the future.
Papalucci's is one of those rare places that doesn't
go downhill after a while. I have eaten there for
over 17 years and it has been consistantly excellent.
It really does not matter what you get, it will be good. I eat out over 600 times a year, and there are only about 15 places I can recommend without hesitation - Papalucci's is one of them. Mediocre restaurant owners take note, go out to dinner once in a while and pay attention! you may learn something from a place like Papalucci's.
