Jongewaard's Bake and Broil
In every American town, with a population of four or more people, sits the ultimate icon of American cuisine and that is none other than the diner. It's where people come to eat pancakes, fried chicken after church or maybe just stop in for a slice of pie and a cup of coffee. In Long Beach that place is Jongewaard's Bake & Broil. Since first opening the bake and broil has become a local favorite by serving anything from meatloaf to blueberry muffins with speed and accuracy. Some local favorites are the perfectly seasoned hash browns and the homemade red velvet cake. Drop in to see Long Beach's take on the American diner.
I don't know what those Bad reviews are all about. We have never had bad service. The food is Great and the service also. Yes it is busy at times. They try their best to seat all as soon as possible. Some customers will never be satisfied. I say Great, go someplace else. I hate being at a place where people Gripe.
The service is one of the worst I have ever encountered. The waitresses are rude. They leave you waiting and the service takes forever. Yeah, their food is good, but I would go go elsewhere and get both, good service and good food,
My friend and I went there to get dessert one night. We walked in and stood there for about 5 mins waiting to be seat, now thet would be ok if it was packed or the waiters were busy but they weren't three were sitting down, turned around, looked at us and kept talking, rude much! We were finally seated and they didnt have many pies left witch is understandable since it was late at night. It took about 10 mins to get water and 20 mins to get two slices of pie!!! The pie was okay, the service was NOT! Dont go here if you want nice fast service, try Bixby Cafe, nice people good service and GOOD food!
This place is going downhill fast.
Don't go at a time when it is crowded, they will always get your order messed up (the cooks), the breakfast food often comes to you cold because some waiters do not keep the food quickly enough left up at the cook's counter, and the managers never smile, nor are they friendly, nor will they try to comp you for messing up your orders.
My days at Bake n' Broil are over.
Absolutely yummy. Vegetarian friendly. Staff is nice. There is a wait because this place is so popular. For mommies with infants and small kids beware there is no changing table in the ladies restroom, so you will have to do the diaper change in the car. The food is worth the small inconvenience though. Yum! Will definitely be going back.
Agree that the food is awesome, faves are the turkey burger, chinese chicken salad, anything they serve for breakfast and the red velvet cake. However, I stopped going there because of the bad energy , the service and the vibe. While the actual waitresses and waiters are fine, its the people up at the front, the blonde hostess, and cashier's etc., maybe because its so busy, but they are rude, and don't make you feel very welcome, and lots of times it seems people that get there after us, get seated before us, its the favoritism someone else mentioned. So I started going to the Harvest instead on Carson/Paramount, much nicer people and food almost as good.
i love this place...the lemon herd chicken and burgers are great..i love the red velvet cupcakes, and if you can remember..take note.. !! during the summer months they have a peach cream cheese pie!!! TO DIE FOR... i have never tasted peaches that were so fresh and sweet and the glaze..OMG.. i get them every summer...and the crust.. i love them..they also have other varieties availube the rest of the year..
