Alegria Cocina Latina

Description

Bienvenidos!Welcome to Alegria Cocina Latina!Let us pour you a glass of our famous homemade Alegria Sangria as we take you on a fascinating tour of "Nouveau Latin" Cuisine. Alegria opened it's colorful doors in April 1994 in downtown Long Beach in a beautiful historical building "The Clock Tower". Alegria, meaning "happiness" in Spanish, was born, soon becoming a destination in Long Beach! Alegria was designed with a rustic flair. Colorful mosaic tiles, old brick walls and beautiful murals set the tone for a fabulous atmosphere, along with an artistic menu! We are proud to feature live entertainment nightly! At our lively bar guests can see every dish coming out of the kitchen. This mouth-watering idea attracts every guest to try at least one bite! Our lively music and old fashion Latin hospitality will bring you back time after time! Chef Walter Cotta was named "Chef Of The Year" 2004 by the Southern California Restaurant Writers We look forward to serving you soon!

Atmosphere and great Latin food
By ,
Alegria serves up Spanish and Latin atmosphere as well as dining fare. Set on Pine Street in Long Beach, the open front allows the ocean air and the sounds of the busy night life into the restaurant (Hooters is right across the street). With the sounds Latin music most every night (gypsy fusion to Latin jazz), you won't lose a bit if the ambiance. The colorful mosaic tiles on the floor paired with the murals hanging on old brick walls instantly let you know you're in a rustic, yet light hearted environment. The menu is loosely based around the Spanish tapas concept; although here tapas are reserved as appetizers solely with full entrees offered as the main dish. There's nothing stopping the culturally adamant diner from solely ordering tapas paired with drinks from the amply stocked bar.

Lively spot for Saturday night fun
By ,
Alegria is always a fun place to go to on a Saturday night. If you get there between 8 and 10 you will catch their live flamenco show, which is exciting to watch. If you're lucky (or unlucky) you may get pulled up to the stage to show off your flamenco moves. The atmosphere is always lively and the service is good. I've mostly had the tapas and while they are good, they are a bit expensive for what you get. Still a fun place. You'll probably be standing a lot if you're not there for dinner, but that's okay, because you'll want to be dancing once the music starts! I'd recommend it.....we'll see how they do once Cafe Sevilla opens across the street soon!

Tapas y mas tapas!
By ,
Okay...the tapas menu wasn't extensive, but what was there was great! Plus, they were bigger than most tapas. The stuffed chilies on a wonderful bed of rice were out of this so-called world. The service was A+, the live jazz (a sax, guitar, y bass combo) was muy bueno and then some, and the atmosphere above the rest. It was also a great deal. Head on down to this place in downtown Long Beach.

I've been here many times and have enjoyed, both, the delicious food and festive atmosphere. Rarely do you find a place that a provides a novel yet pleasant experience. The menu offers a Pan South American fare, in appetizers, beverages, entrees and deserts. While i wouldn't recommend taking kids, a date and you could have a unique and fun time. Finally, because I enjoy an occasional cigar, it was a pleasant surprise to find that they allow smoking in their outside dining area.

ok - but not many other tapas places in LB
By ,
the food was good, but not great. As with many other tapas places, the menu is just not broad enough. They have flamenco guitar and dancers some nights, so that's cool. Located in hopping downtown LB.

Amazing flavors
By ,
Alegria Cocina Latina deserves all of the praise it has received. The food was beautifully served and my taste buds are still reeling from the interesting flavors. It was New Year's Eve, which might explain the delay in receiving our pre-dinner drinks. But, once received, they proved well worth the wait. We will definitely patronize this restaurant as often as possible and recommend that you do too!

What fun!
By ,
I went to Alegria's on a Thursday night around 8:00pm and found that there was ample seating. (There is a small public parking lot right across the street, and that seemed to be more crowded.) I was among a group of 6, part of a birthday celebration that had made no prior reservation, and we were seated immediately. Food - Amazing, and you're looking at a minimum of $8 for a plate, ranging up into the 20's. They have a wide range of seafood plates and chicken, with colorful salads and soups, and the staff seemed very happy to accomodate the vegan birthday girl. As for me, try the nachos with chicken! Drinks were reasonably priced, and there is a small dessert menu, but save room, because they all sounded very rich and intense. Service - Really great. Our waitress never strayed for too long, and most of the orders were returned promptly. Very accomodating. Ambiance - Lowered lights, deep red and white silk hangings, darkly painted murals over the bar. It's a small venue: 1/2 a restaurant and 1/2 a bar and stage. There is also ample patio seating outside. The ONLY gripe I have has to do with the live entertainment. Not that they weren't incredibly talented, but just extremely loud. If you want a cozy meal for two with intimate conversation, this was not the time to come. The singer graciously did a happy birthday for our table, and that made up for the fact that we practically had to shout to talk to one another. Think about calling ahead to see when they have live entertainment, depending upon your tastes. An overall delicious experience.
