King's Fish House

Description

This is a terrific spot in Long Beach for great jazz and a New Orleans theme. People come from all over to relax, sit back, listen to some blues and jazz, and have a beer. You can get creole tinged seafood dishes, like scallops or crab, as well as animals that don't fare to well in water, like steak and chicken. The interior of this restaurant, which was built as a modern take on the fish houses in New Orleans, has a very rustic-southern feeling, emphasized with pictures of blues legends and 1940's posters. The age range depends on the day of the week. Crab and oysters are the main attractions at this third-generation restaurant. They are prepared in a delightful manner and go great with a glass of beer. There is also a wine list with prices that are easy to your pocket and also a kids menu for the little ones.

Prior to my last experience at King's I would have given them @ least 4 stars; always paid cash. When I attempted to pay with a gift card issued @ Oceans, the waiter said the card had a zero balance, I had a receipt showing a $50.00 balance. It took five days to learn that a manager @ Ocean Avenue Seafood in Santa Monica zeroed out eight $50.00 cards. Many people would assume the purchaser had already used them. I am glad they don't have my credit card information. UPDATE: I received a new $60.00 card and used it @ 555. The balance was verified before placing the order, which I strongly recommend. The martini, caesar salad, steak, mashed potatos, and service were excellent; consistent with King's quality and service. My bill was about $58.00 + $12.00 tip. The memory of the episode @ King's remains, but my goal to spend the entire card balance has been achieved.

Had a shrimp dish and was impressed with the amount of shrimp for the price. Good food, good atmosphere, good service. Everything about the place was 4/5 stars in my book.

This place was excellent! I back in December because I was in town visiting some family in Long Beach. To this day, I still remember my server's name. Jackie. I am going to be returning in June and hope she still works there. She was very attentive and really knew the menu. Oysters were excellent! She suggested the artichoke and it was amazing! I am so glad I went there and I make sure to tell all my business associates and family members about this place and about the great experience me and my wife had. I can only hope that my next experience there will be just as good.

I went here to eat with my husband yesterday(Saturday) before going to a bar and I was completely enjoying my seared ahi steak dinner with cooked spinach when whole and behold there was a cooked ladybug in my spinach. Unfortunately I couldn't finish my plate and I told a waitress about it. My waitor, Andres, came and apologized and offered to replace the dish. I said no thank you and then he left. Then the floor manager named Justin came and was very sorry for the situation. He offered us desert, extra drinks and took care of dinner for us aside from the beverages. Although there was an insect in my plate, I really did enjoy my dinner up to that moment. I would definitely go back as long as I know I wont have bugs in my plate again. As a matter of fact, I am so pleased with the way the situation was handled I would take my chance. Just be sure to check your cooked spinach for ladybugs! As a side note: Andres my waitor was very attentive, funny and knowledgable, (great service)..the hostess was very nice also, she seated us even when they were going to close in 15 minutes.

ate with my girls there a couple of months back. The oyster shooters were great, we ended up ordering twice for 'em! Atmosphere nice and calm on a week night, probably not during the weekend. A must-try.

Great place. Unfortunately, our bill always warrants a 'decent size' tip, which I never feel the waiter/waitress deserve. Last time we were there, the waiter sat down while taking our order. I need to stop tipping as much here. The food is A+, service is moderate.

Nice but...

we were surprised at the portions, at least for the grilled items, expected a little more, but then, prices were reasonable, I guess, for the portions. Service was a bit slow, about an hour wait before dinner was served. Waitress was pleasant (could have been new to the business) but appeared to be having a hard time waiting on two groups at the same time. Nice ambiance but don't go there if you are in a hurry and hungry.

Terrific food, sinful deserts! This is a great lunch place, but don't go for dinner unless you like lot's of horrible bass from the music at Smooth's across the street. It was so annoyingly loud. I am surprised that King's has not filed an official complaint with the city for driving business away. The noise probably does permanent damage to the ears of employees stuck hearing it nightly. Go for lunch, you cannot get a bad meal. The staff is attentive. Someone I ate with didn't like her fish. She kind of picked at it. The waitress noticed; and brought her a different kind of fish, so my friend left happy. I'm a coffee snob, and hate places who use cheap coffee. This is quality coffee - which you'll need to go with the chocolate ice-box cake, creme brulee and bread pudding. Do not skip desert !
