Shenandoah at the Arbor
Shenandoah at the Arbor is owned and operated by Rick and Jill Wilson, the original owners of Shenandoah Cafe, which was located in Long Beach for over 21 years. October of 1983 Shenandoah Cafe opened in Naples on Naples Plaza, one year later Shenandoah moved down the street a couple of miles to a larger location on 2nd street in Belmont Shore. Shenandoah Cafe closed it's doors on May 31, 2005. On July 28, 2003 , Rick and Jill opened Shenandoah at the Arbor at 10631 Los Alamitos Blvd. in Los Alamitos, California. Shenandoah at the Arbor is located in one of five converted residential bungalows with a backyard patio unlike any in the area. Huge mulberry trees, with twinkling lights, a koi pond with a bridge and a waterfallac|the green grass, plants and flowers makes you realize this is the reason we live in Southern California.
Once in awhile I like to catch up on comments people post about some of my favorite resturants & I was surprised to read some negative comments about Shenandoah as to the not being kid friendly, I was surprised because I have been there several times with my children & I have always been treated very well. For the most part it is more of a tranquile relaxing place to go to get away from the hussel & bussel of everyday life so if you do take children just be aware of the other guests around & know that they dont want to be disturbed, after all they are spending their money too. As far as the comment from another guest saying that Shenandoah is a senior center that is far from the truth, everytime I'm there I see people of ALL ages & everyone always seem to be enjoying themselfs.
I haven't been to this restaurant as yet, but I most definitely plan to go. All of the ratings as of 2/18/10 are five stars, so I believe that my rating will follow suit, especially since I don't plan on bringing a screaming baby with me as the one descending rating states. I think that it is to be appreciated that there are some restaurants that are kid friendly and some that are not. For those restaurants that are not, one should not take their kids there. No one wants to here or deal with screaming kids that are not their own after a long hard day at work. This restaurant seems to want to portray a relaxing and tranquil environment - that's one of the reasons why I'm going. Screaming kids are the opposite of that. As much as no one likes to be asked to leave anywhere frankly, that patron should have understood that the screaming was upsetting to others. I just think she should have evalulated the situation from the others perspective.
Ambiance is great, food is just ok, customer service is poor. Just because you see high chairs being provided for children, don't be fooled. This had been my fourth time visiting this location. My grandmother enjoys the scenery, even though the food is always just ok. This last time we went I took my two children. As my son wanted his bottle he began to fuss. The manager immediatly brought the check. Right after she sent her host to ask us to pay the bill or step outside, because he was causing them to lose customer. I could not believe it, we hadn't even come close to finishing our meal, we paid our bill, and were never given any apology. I was humilated as others watched us leave and heard them ask us to leave. I am a chef and am in the hospitality industry, and I would never treat any paying customer in this manner. The manager stated it was due to the weather that the host was on edge. Are you serious?? I will not be going back to this restaurant, nor will I recommend it.
I was taken here for my Christmas gift this year and not only was the service excellent, the ambiance beautiful but the food was superb! I ordered the tri-tip sandwich with cole slaw and sweet potato fries and was blown away at the taste and of everything I ate! We have decided that I will take the same friend back here for her Christmas gift too. A tradition we have every year just to spend quality time catching up! Loved it!
I went for my Bday. WOW! an incredible experience. DAVID was our server and could not have done a more amazing job. Definately made our dining experience great. Food was delicious, I had the country fried steak and all the sides. I use to love their old location but this new location is even greater. BEST RESTAURANT IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA!!!...Mike C.
