We two couples were in Catalina this past weekend and on saturday night 5/14/11 were browsing down the main street around 8:30 p.m. One couple were standing outside the cantina smoking a cigar while my husband went into the establishment and ordered our four drinks and waited for us to finish our smoke. When my husband went to order a second round of drinks as we had gone in and drank the first round the bartender yelled from the cash register that the bar was closed and why did my husband flip him off. The bartender proceeded to get obnoxious and start arguing with my husband. He bullied my husband and was looking to start a fight. Us other three stood standing in shock as my husband would never flip someone off and we witnessed the encounter. I would never patronize this eatery again and will tell every friend I know never to eat or drink at the Catalina Cantina. No wonder we were the only customers at 9:00 p.m. on a Saturday night.
bring a huge appetite when you come to catalina cantina because they serve portions fit for the jolly green giant. the ambience is lively and service is reasonably good. if you get a chance, sit at the tables facing the street to maximize on people watching and the view of the bay is there for the taking. we ordered nachos with pork and i had the guava margarita which had just about the right amount of frou-frouiness to it.
Every time I go to the Island I have to make a pilgrimage to the Catalina Caantina. Their portions are huge, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is just what you'd expect in a harbor town. Sportfishing memorabilia is everywhere, and the mural of Avalon is cool. While you're there, start with the Cantina Wings. Tasty. Move on to the Island Burrito and you can't go wrong. Deeeelish!
