This place is the best! Why spend about the same amount going to a chain resturant like Outback or Claim Jumpers if you love steak? For about the same price, you get superior food, larger portions, and the best service of any resturant I've ever been to, even better than Morton's or Ruth Chris.
I can't recommend it enough.
just ate there tonight after reading comments earlier on this page. was looking for a great steak house in the area. the service and atmosphere was wonderful, hats off. all was great until the steaks came. salad and dressing great. garlic bread ok, bit mushy for my liking, but good none the less. we had ordered the porterhouse and a combo plate. for the price i figured a powerhouse steak dinner. until the entrees came and i sat looking at a ralph's t-bone patty. coming from nyc when i order a porterhouse, my stomachs eye can see a 2 inch cut and meat practically hanging from the edges of the plate its on. anyone ever been to peter luger's. not trying to start a east vs west best food spat, but this patty was an inch at most and no larger than a.....well......t-bone. and tough. tendons wrapped the edges making it hard to cut. the potato was good, fresh sour creme and fresh chives. onion rings ok, was good with the sauses provided. my wifes combo wasnt much better. fried scallops, fried chicken, shish kabob, o rings and potato. kabob meat was not good. she mentions she didnt know what kind of meat it was. chicken is hard to go wrong, so it was acceptable, the scallops would have been much better if they werent fried. potato and rings same like mine, good. i still havent found a good steak house yet. we sat there and complained as we ate, but always gave a positive remark when ask if all was ok during dinner. this is no steak house. not if you really havent tasted foods outside of the area. i wont say all of L.A. yet, we plan to try out pasadena. i might just have to fight the traffic and go downtown to try there too. till then i will settle for costco meats. laugh if u must, but its still better than most.
question for the kitchen, are the meats pre-cut? taste almost vacuum packed. is the meat ordered aged at all? there is no tenderness.
apologies for the review, but if you really are a meat eater and can tell the difference. someone that doesnt call salt and pepper, spices. please save yourself 40 bucks a head.
I just recently stepped in check out what everyone was talking about. The food is of the upmost quality, with hand carved steaks and the best australian lobster. The prime rib is gigantic and full of flavor! Definately a place worth trying.
If i am ever given the chance to choose my last meal it will be clearman's.
The special steak , shrimp , chicken , dinner salad , cheese bread , onion rings , pretty much everything is wonderful the only you have to do is stick the fork in your mouth every else is done for you. I have not found a better restaraunt and i have tried mannnnny!!
The food is great. Lobster, steak, fish, and shrimp. Cooked to perfection. Dinner is served with a dinner salad, cheese bread, and a giant bake potatoe. Eat dinner by candle light. Great atmosphere to enjoy your meal in. There is a small bar to have a drink before dinner. The service is memorable. Your potatoe is prepaired in front of you and you are treated like a king while you are there. Very convenient location, located next to the Freeway.
I would suggest having the prime rib if you are going to be dining at Steak 'n Stein.
