just another average Japanese restaurant in LA
After reading all the great reviews, decided to check it out myself. First, don't bother with reservations. Because the restaurant doesn't take any for after 6 pm. Who eats before 6??? We arrived passed peak dinner time. But still waited 15 min before seated. The seats were tiny. I'm 5'2, 100 lb, and felt like I was sitting in a kindergartener's seat. The chefs weren't Japanese. Which is a major warning sign. Most of the dishes on the menu are deep fried, pan fried or flash fried. Of course they tasted good. What food doesn't taste good when drenched in oil and batter?? All is all, this is a good place if you want Japanese style bar food. If you're looking for dishes prepared with fresh ingredients and the quality skills of a trained Japanese chef, look elsewhere...like Kappo Honda, Honda-Ya, Kappo Sui, or Ango Tei.
