Uncle Bill's Pancake House
Our building was constructed in 1908 as a home, and was used as a flower shop, real estate office, and for other purposes before Uncle Bill McElroy opened Uncle Bill's in 1961. Or rather, half of it was Uncle Bill's - the south end was a barbershop until 1999. Paul Allen Van Amburgh bought the restaurant in 1973, remodeled the place a bit, and added a few tables. In 2000 the restaurant expanded again into the space vacated by the barbershop, and we opened the outdoor patio. The restaurant remains in the Van Amburgh family, who are happy to welcome you for breakfast and lunch every day.
Great food, great staff, and an amazing view as you walk into the place!
I had the hash and eggs (with the recommended pancakes). By the time I finished with the eggs, hash patty, and the heavenly potatoes, I was eyeing the plate-sized hotcakes with a bit of reluctance. Don't get me wrong, I still devoured the two fluffy saucers of goodness, but it was a chore to do so.
The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is that the coffee had a bit of a burned taste to it. Now, I like my coffee strong (almost chunky), but this brew seemed to have been on the burner a bit long.
Go early in the morning. I arrived around 7am on a Wednesday and just strolled in.
