Went there with a friend for a weekday lunch. We went early, so beat the lunchtime crowd. Had the brown rice and chicken gumbo--delicious! The chicken was tender and juicy, the rice was nutty and flavorful. The dish seemed really healthy, too. Didn't notice much oil.
Took leftovers home, but it didn't reheat so well in the microwave. The chicken got kind of hard, and the dish got really salty, probably cuz it was sitting in the juices overnight.
But the food that day was great! There was some kind of garlic dipping sauce for the bread, which was pretty good. Good service, refilled water promptly.
the ambiance, service and quality of dishes typically costs far more. My wife and I look forward to eating there every time we're in the area. Sometimes we even drive from Pasadena just to eat at Chef Hannes'. If you're a Lakers fan, you can say hi to Phil Jackson, who seems to dine there often.
