Beautiful location, great staff
By ,
Yamashiro is one of my favorite spots in LA. The location is gorgeous with a great view of the city. The restaurant itself it beautiful, with an outdoor garden to sit around and awesome Japanese decor. Also, the staff is so cool - ask Steve the bartender to do some magic tricks for you!

Hefty price for the view
By ,
Amazing views of LA and beautiful setting but the lobster salad I had was not that great and quite expensive for what we got. The sushi was good (but we've had better) but tiny portions. Japanese gardens are beautiful as well as the property. Staff was friendly but the service was slow. There are so many great restaurants in LA, I won't go back to this one.

Don't go there to eat!
By ,
The restaurant is worth going to see the Japanese architecture and the view of LA down below. The food is very expensive and disappointing. The miso soup was salty. I asked for some hot water to dilute the soup. The waiter brought the soup back to the kitchen and added some hot water to it. He brought it back to me but the soup still tasted salty. I ordered a sea bass dish for main course. The sea bass was tasteless and dry. I left most of it on the plate. It was not worth eating even though the dish cost $32. It was a total rip-off. I don't know who does the cooking but my sea bass was not done by a chef. The fish tasted that it had been frozen for a long time. Valent parking is $6. Will never go back again.

Not Just for Tourists! Try Yamashiro's Because...
By ,
Even if you've lived in Southern California forever, a visit to Yamashiro will rekindle your love for LA not to mention fine Japanese flavors with a difference. (1) Location, location, location. Expansive views of the city from downtown to the Wilshire district. Arrive before dusk so you can see the lights of LA come to life. (2) Superb & attentive service. (3) And what of the food? Oh my gosh. Amazing & unique flavors. We settled on a mix of appetizers, salads, sashimi, and sushi that included the filet mignon carpaccio, pomegranate-tofu salad, and Hawaii Five-O roll (spicy yellowtail, mango, macadamia nuts, coconut). Unique and delicious taste combinations all around. The fish offerings on the sashimi tray were melt-in-your-mouth good. This restaurant is popular. And as the night progressed, it was packed with very happy people. Which meant where we sat (the room with a view), it was very loud at times. If you want quiet, you can find it. Yamashiro's offers various room arrangements, so you can find the ambiance you seek. For example, you can opt for the atmospheric outdoor Japanese garden located at the restaurant's interior (like an atrium garden).Or, dine earlier in the evening when noise level is not an issue. Much like our fellow diners, we left happy, happy, happy.

go there for the atmosphere, not the food
By ,
the restaurant itself is beautiful. sat outside by the authentic japanese garden. the service was above average unfortunately the food and drinks were simply mediocre. nothing was particularly good, and of course the price isnt exactly cheap.

By ,
I recently took a date here for drinks, and i gotta say ive been here before so i knew what to expect...but she didnt. Her eyes bugged out as wide as saucers and she was smitten... i can safely say it was a good date and this place put it over the top. My suggestion is to have drinks.. enjoy the atmosphere but unless you want to come out of pocket BIG time... i wouldnt eat here...its All ambiance

Great place to go for a special occassion
By ,
My boyfriend and I have been here twice for special occassions. The service is good, the food is excellent if not a little pricey, but for a special occassion, I'm willing to pay up. The view is spectacular, great place to go for a romantic date.
