Tana's Restaurant

Description

Dan Tana was a refugee from Yugoslavia and started as a lowly dishwasher who later went on to own the place. This was nearly 50 years ago! His is one of the finest restaurants in the United States. It may not be the swankiest but the ambiance is friendly and exciting at the same time. Located in West Hollywood, a few steps from Beverly Hills, Dan Tana's has a democratic mix of Hollywood's high, low and in-between. Long time established stars like Peter Falk and Karl Malden may be seen along with newer celebs like Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Drew Barrymore!

I was expecting alot better, I didn't really care for the steak. You can go pretty much anywhere for the same prices (Morton's, Mastro's aren't too much more). Everyone else said they liked it though so maybe it's just me (or the Italian food is better than the steaks). It is very loud and crowded (like being in NY), no getting around that. Service was good.

Overrated

Dan Tana's has mediocre Italian food at best, however pretty good for Los Angeles...It is extremely pricey when considering that back east in NY or NJ you can get food of this quality for much, much less not to mention much better quality...bottom line stay away from Italian food in Los Angeles...They just cant get it right.

It's not THAT great
By Atisa, 11/29/06
My fancy in-laws from NY wanted to go because they had hear raves about their steak. The steak is ok, not that great. I had linguine with red clam sauce, wich was the best dish at our table. The anitpasto platter is not impressive-you get a lot of chickpeas- not impressive considering the money you're spending. Our server went home halfway into our meal without saying anything to us, so spent a lot of time trying to figure out whom to ask for service. There did seem to be a lot of very thin beautiful fake people around. I have no idea why they'd come there to carbo load, but whatever.

Best Ceasar salad and Steak in the city
By Neal, 1/17/06
Dan Tana's may be small and noisy, but the Caesar salad and steak are without equal. The Chioppino is to die for, and the garlic cheese bread is sinful. Great place for fine dining.

Definately a Favorite

Jumbo Shrimp Parmesan, yummy. Need reservations far in advance at times, a bit pricey but not unrealistic.

The best
By Shirley K, 9/26/05
This is the best restaurant in CA. The steaks are out of this world. Also very consistant. Everything is made fresh.

overpriced, but fun
By Alyssa, 9/26/05
The food is good, but not as good as divey NYC Italian and it's four times the price. That being said, the fried raviolis are just like grandma's and are a must for an app. Entrees are named after some notables (and some semi-washed up notables), and tables decked in red and white checkers. A fun place to start a night!

Love the neighborhood feel, they remember you. Very relaxed atmosphere. Best steaks in town.

great white fish - the best we ever had!!
By victoria, 9/25/05
We've been going to Tana;s for years - you can always count on the great food - however there is usually quite a wait for a table. It's not cheap - but it sure is yummy!!
