Koi Restaurant

Description

Koi Los Angeles is a sophisticated blend of feng shui and modern elegance. Illuminated by candlelight, the natural and intricate details of the restaurant create an elegant dining atmosphere, while the Zen inspired design of earth-toned colors, sleek design, fireplaces and waterscapes all create a stunning atmosphere of harmony by combining subtly luxurious materials with nature's elements of water, air, fire and light. At Koi, chefs deconstruct traditional Japanese preparations and respectfully re-imagine them, by infusing modern California accents. Sushi chefs and the kitchen staff derive their inspiration from each other resulting in creations like the signature Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna, an addictive version of the classic spicy tuna roll, featuring warm grilled rice topped with a thick layer of cool, savory tuna); the Baked Crab Roll, for which succulent fresh crabmeat is wrapped in a thin rice crepe paper dotted with sesame seeds and baked to perfection.

Despite the wait, still had a great time. Food is delicious and the decor is very cool.

My visit to Koi was through work, so I can't review the prices as work paid the bill. However, I can verify the food - it's amazing. We ordered one of almost everything on the menu and it was delicious. My favorite was the Yellowtail. Oh and if you are a drinker, they make the BEST peach martini's I have ever had. They have floating raspberries in them. My only complaint is that they offer a smoking section, which really isn't cut off from the rest of the restaurant. Other than that, I'd go back to this restaurant time and time again.

I went to this restaurant with my family and we ordered few things to share. We got black cod, California roll, spicy tuna and small pieces of beef with black peper (can't remember the name). All were really good specially the cod. Service was friendly and we did not have to wait long to be seated. We did have reservations though. Definate must go restaurant for LA visitors.

Went to dinner with friends, but as soon as the movie star's started coming in, we where asked to move to another table (while eating mind you) so that some one in the entertainment business can sit there. THE NERVE! And the worst part of it all is that I spent $500 bucks there and there were only 3 of us. MY / OUR MONEY IS JUST AS GREEN AS ANYONE IN THE ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS........

The restaurant was BEAUTIFUL...BUT the food wasn't all that great for the $$$$ we paid. As a matter of fact, we had to hit up Carl's Jr. after we were done eating...LoL...that's not good at all!!!!! Oh yeah, and if you make reservations...be there @ that time or else you'll be waitin' for days like we did :(

YUMMY SUSHI
I Love sushi I love eating sushi at Koi this place is amazing from the atmosphere to the celebrities to the raw fish! Everything turns to gold while you dine on spicy tuna on top of crispy rice, and popcorn shrimp...word to the wise make a RSVP the hostess are very rude and only seat well know people.

Yuck

Koi definitely has the lookers but the food is substandard for taste and quality. Your neighborhood Korean place or minimall sushi place could satisfy you if you like rolls. I would recommend this establishment if you are the kind of shallow person that likes to overpay to mingle with the beautiful people in a nice setting. Don't go for the food.

Excellent Food
By ,
I went to Koi at first b/c it was great for celeb spotting, but ending up falling in LOVE with the food. Someone said they ripped off Nobu, but it's nothing like Nobu, Miami (I haven't been to the NY one). Koi is my favorite LA spot - expensive but worth it!!

simply aweful experience

you better go there after a huge meal, because they serve you midget portions. after $60 (just for myself) I was hungry. insanely over rated and the food is substandard. there's absolutely nothing special about this place, other than the soso ambience.

This Place is a JOKE!!!
By ,
I have been a sushi chef and chef for 15 years. This place is all about the stars. There are much better places if you actually are interested in the food. Look beyond the flashy places and find the one's that spend the $$$ on the Fish. I can name at least 5 other places in to eat better sushi. Start at HUMP.
