Japanese food is not just sushi. Sakura excels in good old fashioned Japanese cuisine. Go for the table service and try the combinations. Check the board for butterfish, a moist, rich soft fish, a local favorite.

Food is good but when we were sitting at the bar. A customer complained that there was a fly in one of the ingredients that the sushi chef's were using and after taking a look at what they were point at I saw the fly sitting in the food....

Best Japanese food in town!
By ERIC, 8/10/07
If you haven't been you gotta go! Great food and excellent, friendly service. For good Japanese food and nice wine selection, it's a great evening waiting to happen. Be prepared to wait your turn though.

Eh...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/12/07
Maybe if you live close by it and like the smell of an end of the day fish market while you eat. There are so many tastier places that aren't more expensive. I would only eat at Sakura if I lived near there (and the couple times a year my friend makes me go because he does live near there). Signed - Deep sea fisherman who lived in Japan for five years...

Best food in town~
By Airborne Fan!, 5/13/07
This is the best japanese food you could hope for. What a delightful suprise to come across this too well kept secret... Treat yourself... but then again, the more people that know about it, it will be even more difficult to get in.. So, if you want to dine there.. make sure you arrive when it opens. You won't be dissappointed.

Lines are long, but food is worth the wait!
By Julia, 2/25/07
We only go once every couple of months or so because of the wait, but the hostess always recognizes us and always treats us well,as does the wait staff. The portions are large and always fresh, the langustino roll is amazing! Highly recommend!

You know it's good when
By CARI LH, 2/24/07
there's along line any night of the week. I don't do lines but finally gave in....Imagine my surprise when I saw Harry (from Hide when it was the hole-in- the-wall on Sawtelle that is now gr/eats) behind the bar. Sushi is top quality and not necessary pricey. Yumm! Hostess (owner?) is friendly and efficient. It's a comfy neighborhood hangout with quality food. What are they making from the old Mago's anyway?

Fresh!!
By Araceli, 1/28/07
I love the restaurant! It is soo warm and open. The waitresses and very nice and sweet. Great Customer service! Try the shrimp tempura roll. You won't regret it. I have tried the shrimp tempura rolls in other sushi houses, and this one is the best! You might have to wait... but it is well worth it!

Great sushi!
By Laura, 1/2/07
Super fresh sushi, great portions, friendly service at this family establishment. I go at least once a week. I've been to Nobu's, Koi, etc, but this is the place I go for good sushi and easy going atmosphere.
