We got there really early, 7:30 or so, in order to beat the Saturday rush that usually has people waiting outside for a half-hour or more. I really loved the pancakes, I had the pumpkin, blueberry and buttermilk, as well as the hot biscuits, which I smothered in butter and honey.
Odd, though, to be charged extra for a maple syrup that tasted like Trader Joe's out of the can.
There is always a line to get in, for good reason. John O'Groats has great omelets, oatmeal and other breakfast food. It is also open for other meals, but its repuation rests on its breakfasts. A relatively small table-and-counter place; because of the lines, not the place for a quick bite, but I like almost like the wait, with newspaper, coffee and a friendly local crowd.
The food really shines here. No greasy, oily breakfast food to be had anywhere. Just good eats. But, be prepared to wait for a while... long lines to get a table are commonplace. But complementary coffee and newspapers are provided.
