On MacArthur Park's south side, the bright facade of Mama's Hot Tamales stands out among the more dreary, rustic and neighboring establishments. MacArthur Park has recently undergone a number of renovations to restore it as the colorful escape that it once was. However, no changes are needed at Mama's. This bright spot offers a diversity of Latin dishes and specializes in the delicious creation of one-of-a-kind tamales.

A fair restaurant with better press clippings that food. The specialty is tamales. They are mostly masa and do not live up to their billing, nor to Texas standards. Mama can put a decent meal on the table, and we enjoyed eating ours. But we probably won't go back. I agree with the review by mortis24 regarding service. It is slow. Parking may be a problem.

We went to the Tamale festival yesterday and the street was packed. Mama's Hot Tamale was the event host or the one that won the Best Tasting Award. The lines were long but we all waited patiently. Everyone seemed to think the Tamale's tasted good. I enjoyed mine.

Food Good... Service...well... I cant understand why it was taking so long. We walked in though the door and were sat promptly but it took about 5-10min to get a menu. We looked though the menu then we ordered drinks it took about another 15min for the drinks to arrive then we were forgotten again by this time we were thinking maybe we should leave because it was just taking so long... Anyway about 30 mins later we finally ordered and it took about 20 mins for the food to arrive. So when the food did arrive it was just ok not like wow but just ok. Possibly will not go back.
