El Coyote Cafe

Description

The huge crowd sipping margaritas in the bar is the first clue as to the popularity of this Mexican cantina. The entire restaurant rolls with an upbeat, almost silly atmosphere. The wait on a Friday night can be anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes but the food is cheap and plentiful. Entrees such as burritos, enchiladas and tacos come in combo plates with beans and rice priced pretty low. The margaritas are strong, so sit back, enjoy your drink and watch out for young Hollywood stars milling about.

Mexican food this bad, this close to Mexico, deserves more scorn than one mere person can heap.

You'll be drunk early so hurry up and read the menu! Shredded chicken enchiladas are a must-have.

An LA staple -- despite the politics. Tacky but good. Not excellent but still tasty. Good people watching.

You get what you pay for. This down and dirty icon on Beverly pours a mean margarita and has cheap Mexican eats on its extensive menu. Food is fair, but the atmosphere is fun and inviting.

What can you say? Maybe the best restaurant experience in L.A., especially after that first margarita. Don't try and fight it.
