What a terrible Italian restaurant. This is one of the worst Italian restaurants out there. Even Olive garden is probably better. Almost everything tastes like the same all overpowering red tomato sauce. You can't taste anything else.
For really good Italian food go to Il capricio down the road or Farfalla one block furhter on Hillhurst or Casa Bianca in Eagle Rock.
I don't like to eat cold pizza, or pizza as a leftover the next day. Tony's pizza is the ONLY pizza that I've ever did! That's says a lot. Palermo's is cozy, inclusive, like everyone there is family - regardless of race or ethnicity. Good food, good crowd and friendly staff is what makes a restaurant great! God Bless you Tony and staff of Palermo's!!!!
I loved the Italian feel to Palermos restaurant. Tony, the owner is always delightful and the staff is prompt in their service and the food is not cooked in a microwave but is freshly made for you. It is my favorite in Italian cuisine.
Palermo's ROCKS! Although I am Italian, but not Sicilian, I have to admit, Tony knows how to do it up. Nothing is bad @ Palermo's.
Negative feedback - you don't know what you are missing! 20,000 law enforcement can't be wrong!
One does not go to Palermo expecting the finest in Italian cuisine. Or the most romantic spot. But, this IS one of the best Italian restaurants in the United States (for what it is)! Waiting for a table is painless with Tony and the staff pouring 75 cent wine. The 'amuse bouche' (to mix up my cuisines) are small slices of the Rosa Pizza, which has got one of the richest, warmest flavors around. The one negative reviewer said every thing was red tomato sauce. This is simply not true! There are TWO sauces: the red and the white. (Actually, there are more, but the red and white sauces are so good, no one needs more -- get them mixed, get them half and half). This is a place to get comfort food! Large portions! Good enough wines. All at very reasonable prices. And, in all honesty, the campness, the ALMOST Chef Boyardee-ness of it all, is done on such a perfect level, it totally works.
Once, I was there on a Saturday afternoon for just a snack of the Rosa Pizza when I saw over 20 cops having a late lunch. They were paying (believe it or not). It was the safest I have ever felt in my life. I trust that cops do know where to go for good food.
I might just have to stop by there again tonight...
