Roscoe's Chicken

Description

File this one under 'guilty pleasures'. It sounds strange to combine chicken and waffles on the same plate, but you've got to try the fare at Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles. It's out of this world good. Sure, it's high in cholesterol but sometimes you just have to live. This down-home Southern stop also offers grits and all the soul-food accoutrements, including black-eyed peas, mac and cheese, cornbread, all kinds of greens and more. Thank heaven for wet-naps. The manager says "Come once and you'll be back for more."

I have never tried this place before and went because I was in LA and have been hearing so much about chicken and waffles lately. I liked the chicken wings and I am a big wing afficionado. The breast was a bit dry and smaller than usual. I think some of the skin was missing. My friend had a thigh and he said it was too small too. The waffle was good but a little soft. I heard you can ask for it crisper if you like it that way. It was a thin waffle and not the thick Belgian style. The flavor was good. I think it has some spice added to it like cinnamon or nutmeg. Same with the maple syrup. The mac and cheese was great. It was really homemade tasting. It could have used more cheese though. I got the gravy smothered potatoes and I didn't like that too much and I usually love potatoes and gravy. Something about the taste of the potatoes was off. We got there at about 630 on Saturday night and had to wait about 20 minutes. If you don't want to wait you have to go during off peak hours. I would go here again but I would not wait if there was a long line. Also reasonable prices and fast service.

The waffles are way too thin. I don't eat meat so I didn't try the chicken. It has nice ambiance though and good beverages. I remember seeing a advertisement with a normal sized waffe, but when you get there, the waffles are pancake thin. They would be much better if they offered a decent sized waffle.

I really don't know what all the fuss is. I went there for the first time hung over and thought maybe that was the reason I wasn't feeling it. But after going a second time my first impression of Roscoes remains the same whats the big deal small portions and the cost a little too much.

I love Roscoe's but not this one. The waffel was okay and the chicken was just plain nasty. The batter on the chicken was not crispy at all. It seems as if they tried to bake it first then fry it to give it that KFC look. The cornbread look like it came straright out the box. The greens were mixed with too much spinach. I suggest getting up early and going to the best one on Pico. You might wait a little longer but thats a good sign when you see people waiting because it must be worth the wait.

It has on OK food. But I thought it was pretty expensive. I mean $10 for a piece of chicken leg?

After walking the streets of Hollywood and taking up all the scenery of all the clubs,Bars bums, etc.. me and my friends decided to go to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles first of all we went on a Saturday night so it was Packed I think we waited about 45 min didn't mind since I heard the food was so good..However after we finally got a table the waitress was really nice and the food was good but wasn't quite enough the waffle was pretty good the chicken was too exept for the fact they didn't give enough of it.. Overall I would go again.. It was fun. Advice: Go before all the clubs let out or else you'll risk druken encounters and a long wait..
