These reviews really don't help me (or anyone else) at all. I walk by the House of Pies every single day and the burgers and steaks smell so char-broiled and great that it makes you a million-times hungrier than you already are. This is a great place in Los Feliz (east of Hollywood), corner of Franklin and Vermont, with a nice outside sitting area. Highly recommended.

if you want any kind of pie, this is the place to buy a slice (worth it to buy a whole pie of that chocolate creme pie!) not about pie? that coffee cake is pretty darn good too. it's an all american joint where the atmosphere feels like you stepped into a diner in anytown USA. all the club sandwiches are huge and very filling. turkey burger is great with that pickle on the side. breakfasts are good there as well. it's a place to stop through if you just want some good diner like food early morning or some place to chill with friends and eat up after the clubs..

Update October 2007 - they got a C health rating. So disappointed! Good stuff!: This is one of my regular places -- if you like diners, you'll love the house of pies. The service is decent but they don't mind if you linger, the food is filling and pretty tasty, and the desserts are awesome. I recommend the typical diner fare, and tend to stay away from anything fancier than a hamburger or a pot roast. Also great for late night munchies, open til 2 AM. (If you're feeling indulgent, I have three words: Southern Pecan Cheesecake. Yum!)

Service, employee
By RoseMarie, 9/14/06
Today I went to House of Pies to buy breakfast for my husband I placed my order at 7:30am the waiter said 5 minutes I said ok, went to sit down and about 7:45 still no order the waiter went back behind the line to see what was happening because he knew it was too long, it seem like the cook did not have the order because the waiter came back to the front and reprinted the order and gave to the cook. Then the worst thing could have happened I saw the cook scratch his head and continue cooking the orders, I explained to the supervisor on duty tell your cook don't scratch his head when cooking my food. I received my order at 7:50am there was about 12 people inside the restaurant and I have came in the morning before when it was much more busy and my order did not take this long, the service is unexcusealbe.

Deceiving Burger Names
By HungL, 5/5/06
The place was great. In a great location in Hollywood. I got the greatest parking spot. Didn't even have to validate my ticket afterwards (shhh...). The menu items were very deceiving however. I ordered the Sante Fe Burger expecting a chili cheese burger. Like a load of chili. Instead they meant chili peppers. Which was kinda lame. The description of all the burgers have capitalized first letters. So It Would Be Like This. Everything Or Most Everything On the Menu Was Written as If It Was A Book Title. They have a policy against eating a whole pie in the store. You have to order it by the slice which is about 4 bucks a slice. Of course we ordered an entire Strawberry Cream Pie and ate it back at the apartment. It was very good. At 11.50 a pie, it was much pricier than Marie Callendars but it was definitely bigger and more unique. Do it! if you love pies and love weird menus. Next time i'm going to try the chili spaghetti. That one for sure has the chili i'm thinking about....

House of Pies, your stop for midnight dessert!
At around 12:30 am, my friends and I got a craving for pie. We figured that a place like House of Pies would have a decent slice of pie waiting for us. We were not disappointed. The menu is typical diner fare, and my omelette might have been a tad greasy, but the hashbrowns that went with it were spectacular. To boot, even if it is a diner, the hot chocolate was really great, but nothing was to compare to the pie. We had been searching for the ideal coconut cream pie, and House of Pies has it. Not stale, not too dry, it was perfect. I felt guilty just eating this decadent piece. We'll definitely go there when the need for pie comes up again.

Food is great, but the Service Sucks
By Greg, 9/14/05
If you want a place that serves decent food at reasonable prices, and at 12 AM, this is the place to go. Believe me when I tell you the food here is great. And it's not just burgers and fries. They also serve breakfast from open to close, really good salads, and hearty sandwiches that will make your mouth water on sight. The only real problem, and it is a big problem is the service. You will be waiting at least a half an hour just to get served. You get more service out if the buss boy that the waiter. When you do get served, then they try to rush you out. If they could just fix that painfull issue, I'd recommend this resturaunt for any brunch party or first date.

nice cozy place in the heart of hollywood, god service, the food is okay, the pies are to die for but the place is kinda dirty, which is what turns me off from going there.
