El Tepeyac Cafe
A bit of history about Manuelac2s Original El Tepeyac CafA(C). Founded in 1942 by the Rojas family; originally called El Tupinamba CafA(C), located in downtown LA; which then moved to Lincoln Heights, there known as La Villa CafA(C). In 1952 the family made its final move to Boyle Heights, where it would be known as El Tepeyac CafA(C), now the home of the ever famous acoeManuel Specialac ac" - the FIVE POUND BURRITO! After the untimely death of his father, Salvador Rojas, Manuel stepped in and along with his mother Rebecca, took the restaurant and built it to become the neighborhood restaurant of Los Angeles and for all who come. Manuel has been involved over the years with several organizations such as the local Optimist Club, Rotary Club and has generously contributed to most local community and school events.
just went there today with my wife and it was okay. the portions are huge so we shared a plate. but the food was bland and i would not make the trip again. and the service was fair at best. and it seemed like mannie was not happy with me and my wife because we were sharing a lunch.
Martha's Burritos on Normandie and 135th is hands down the best. The burritos at El Tepeyuck are very poorly made with very bland flavor. Totally not worth the wait in that long line, plus I don't know Mannie or the crazy vato loco lingo so I didn't get any special treatment. Ramona's (even the frozen ones) are better than this.
Today (03.21.10) went to El Tepeyac Cafe for the first time. No words can describe the food and the hospitality! One of the best experiences. Thank God I saw it on the food channel. I HIGHLY recommend this cafe. You will not regret it. From the scale from 1-10
I give it an 11. Just outstanding all the way around!
