I am asian and i love hot food,i do not know much about Persian food. But 2 years ago when i first tried persian food at Shamshiri grill..I LOVE IT..It s Amazing.Chicken kabob ,grill onion, grill bell pepper with hot sauce and lemon,It is taste so good unbelievable. One more thing about yogurt actually i am not a yogurt fan but i love their yogurt cucumber, mint and something sweet on top of it ,i do not know what it s call but i am so in love with it, every time when i go there it s the first thing i order ^^ .Talking about their service ,the waitress always has a patient with me(my English is not that good and i do not speak loud).She/he explain everything i ask with smile ,patient and polite...Thank you Shamshiri grill for your good qaulity food and good service...i am your number 1 fan :)
The service was terrible. The waitress was rude, self absorbed, and unattentive. She was annoyed by our questions about the menu, then we had to wait 45 minutes for our food. The waitress did not check on us once in 45 minutes. I was watching her to see if she was busy, but all she did was hang out by the register, talk to co-workers, count her tip money, and stare at herself in the mirror in the hallway while fixing her hair. She was very self absorbed and unattentive. I spoke to the manager about the service, but he did not take much action to rectify the situation. All he did was confront the waitress and of course she was defensive and blamed the kitchen. I have been to Shamshiri several times, but this last experience was the worst dining experience I have ever had. I think the people who own Shamshiri are more concerned about how much money they make rather than servicing their customers. And I think they treat and service non-middle eastern people different.
The worst service ever!!!!! When my food arrived cold I had to argue with the owner for a discount... Either I had to pay or the waitress had to pay for the plate. He said it was my fault for not knowing my food was at the other side of my table....I was with a party of 20! I felt like the owner was disrespectful and a horrible business man. Never again will I choose to eat here!
Excellent food at very fair prices. One problem is the fact that they have a share charge that even applies to meals that are large enough for 2 people.
Sometimes the service leaves something to be desired otherwise Shamshiry would have a 5 star rating. Great Cherry Rice and Chicken dishes. I will definitely be back!
Best Persian food that I've found in LA and OC. Bright, well appointed dining room, attentive and friendly wait staff, reasonable prices, more food than anyone should eat, and it is absolutely delicious! The bread comes hot from the kitchen. The lunch specials are a terrific deal, include a soup or salad, and are too much to eat. The regular menu portions are just right--for about 3 meals!
My wife's favorite is the chicken koobideh--ground chicken mixed with spices, and grilled on a skewer. She tries it at all of the Persian restaurants we go to, and I agree with her that this is the best. My favorite is the shirin polo rice dish with pistachio nuts, orange rind, carrots, and almonds. You can get it as a vegetarian dish, or with chicken or lamb shank. The chicken (looks like half a chicken) is braised in a delicious sauce. Again, it's the best we've had, anywhere.
I have dined at many Persian establishments. The Westwood area of Los Angeles has many very good Persian restaurants but, without a doubt, Shamshiri is my favorite. The prices are unbeatable. The food...superb. It's service is cordial and warm. A hard combination. I have eaten at Shamshiri since 1982 and have never been dissappointed with either the food or the service. I have seen many transformations in staff, ambience and menu...but it's always consistently above my expectations. Purely delightful!
I no longer live in the Los Angeles area, but I do make trips down from the Central Coast to take care of business and when I do...I stop here. Every time. When I can't get to Los Angeles and have a Shamshiri craving...I enlist the help of visiting friends to bring my favorite dishes with them! I highly recomend eating at this restaurant...and take a friend. You'll be doing them a favor!
Shamshiri definitely stands out as one of the better persian food places within the Westwood area. The fierce competition is probably what has kept the prices here fairly reasonable (although they raised them substantially, a few months ago), nevertheless the value here can't be beat.
If you've never been before, definitely give the Koobideh a try (beef kabobs), once you've tried it, u'll definitely keep coming back.
