Asakuma Restaurant, Los Angeles

I love the atmosphere which is quiet and lends itself for conversations. I have been there yearly for my birthday celebration bringing guests there. However, this last visit, the salads were smaller than in the last 8-10 years I have been there. The food is wonderful. Being a vegetarian, I love your salads. The service is very good, nice waiters and waitresses.

Asakuma's main perk is that it is a sushi restaurant that delivers, and the staff is very nice. However, although the sushi sometimes looks and tastes fresh, I have gotten sick on 3 separate occasions of ordering from here (out of a total of 6). The first time I got sick, I had the spicy tuna bowl. The second and third time was from their sashimi. I guess I'll have to keep looking for a sushi restaurant that delivers because it's just not worth the risk of getting sick.

I would rank this place as one of the best Japanese restaurants in LA. My co-workers held a going away party there- it was great! They have a semi-private banquet room that is usually available (so I was told), free of charge so long as you have a decent # of people in your party. Service was excellent and the food was to die for!! I'm going back next week with my family. Try the black cod- you'll love it!

I went there last night after hearing about it from a few friends. My date and I ordered 2 tuna 6pc , 1 fatty tuna, 3 salmon, 2 albacore, 2 eel. None of that mayonaise, deep fried, americanized, baked nonsense. If you like that stuff, there's a McDonald's across the street. My favorite was the fresh salmon which melted in my mouth. The salmon was the perfect texture, not too chewy or too rubbery. Think of a baby's butt. Coming in a very-close 2nd, was the albacore. The albacore had green onions and a light ginger dressing. All the fish on every piece of sushi we had seemed to be top quality and fresh as the morning breeze. Be warned....the sushi here ain't cheap. I believe the average 2 pc sushi is around $6. So if you're a pig like me and my date, ok ok I ate way more than her....her loss... you're looking at spending $90-100 with a couple of cold ones to wash down with the perfection. So, yeah it might be a little pricey, but it's soooo worth it, plus it's helping the owners pay that sky high Brentwood rent. I'll just have to Super Size myself across the street for a couple weeks to recuperate my bank account.
