Description

Suehiro Restaurant is one of those "natives-in-the-know" places. Visitors to L.A. have to be told about this nondescript eatery, but once you try it you will be an instant convert. If you like fresh and delicately seasoned tempura that is light and flaky and melts in your mouth, then you will understand why this place is so popular. Anything you order is sensational, but the tempura is in a class by itself.

best place for Japanese food I've been to in LA, the Udon soup is great, the teriyaki chicken, ginger beef, all the dishes are worth the price..which is pretty much average there in little Tokyo. highly recomended...

I didn't know what to order, so I played it safe. Chicken Katsu w/ rice and a cup o' misu. The serving was the perfect size, just enough of everything to fill me up and leave room for desert. I was expecting curry sauce with my katsu, instead I got tube of sauce that was pretty good. My order also included to my surprise, a glob of macaroni salad! Yum! I'd say this place is great for the value. For about ten bucks you can fill your stomach with above average Japanese food. Don't expect anything mind blowing, just some J-Comfort food and friendly cute little old waitresses / cooks.

A Japanese diner in Little Tokyo...
By ,
This is a standard Japanese restaurant in the heart of Little Tokyo. The food was slightly above average. I wish I could give it three and one-half stars. The service was excellent. They don't have a sushi bar, but serve sushi. My girlfriend didn't care for the tuna roll, my cucumber roll was quite tasty, but then again, how can one mess-up a cucumber roll? The vegetable tempura was very good and they served beer. Will I go back? Probably.

One of the best in Little Tokyo.
By ,
I've been going there since I was a small child. The food has always been fantastic and the waitstaff is excellent. I've never had a bad moment there. My personal favorite is the Nabeyaki Udon with a side of tuna sashimi. It's so hearty and filling, I feel so relaxed after eating. If I had more thumbs, I'd give it five thumbs up.

Japanese Coffee Shop
By ,
Right in the heart of Little Tokyo sits this excellent little Japanese coffee shop. The food is consistently good and prices are extremely reasonable, especially considering the restaurant's many seafood offerings. Recommended are the Okonomi Plate, which allows you to mix entrees and sides from three columns to produce a satisfying and gut-busting meal, including Japanese ice cream for dessert. Recently I tried the broiled tuna with miso paste (under $10). My last visit was extremely crowded, but the waitresses did their job competently and no one had any cause for complaint. You pretty much have to park in a nearby pay lot, but there are plenty of interesting stores within walking distance to make the whole experience a good value.

Great Japanese Food!
By ,
I may be a little bias because I am friends the owner of this Japanese restaurant in Little Tokyo/Los Angeles but they have great food! They have so much on their menu but I usually get a combo with broiled fish. Of course you have to get a ramune too! (A soda flavored like 7Up in a glass bottle with a marble in it.)

My favorite for twenty years.
By ,
In the early 80's I went to Suehiros after a night at Al's Bar. I had some wonderful sukiaki, and we were happy to find a restaurant open til 3 AM. Since moving downtown in the mid 80's I have gone to Suehiros weekly. It is like eatting with family.
