TOTALLY OVER RATED. THE FOOD IS MEDIOCRE AND THE MEAT IS NOTHING EXTRAORDINARY...ONLY I GRADE OF MEAT. I HAD HEARD ALL THE HYPE AS I JUST READ AND I WAS NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL. I DON'T RECOMMEND WAITING IN LINE FOR A LESS THAN SATISFACTORY MEAL.
From the outside the restaurant is rather simple and banal. When you walk inside there is only a large island bar type table with chairs for customers to sit next to each other. Service is quick but the wait is extra long. When you finally get a seat and order your food you will see why it's worth the long wait. The restaurant uses the best meat there is for their Shabu Shabu. It's like eating Kobe beef. Once you have eaten there you cannot go anywhere else for Shabu Shabu.
i worked in a japanese food distributor before. the owners had mentioned something about this restaurant. the owners said that it was the typical japanese style. there was no california roll or other americanized version of roll. if the owner read my message here i would like to ask him when will he open another Shabu Shabu in Miami, Florida? there are so many people that love to eat sushi in Florida. take care.
Have a very nice appetite! bye
Been going to this place for a while. The guy that runs it is awsome ( 'Smith, party of 2, Smith??' ). This place is the best Shabu Shabu house in LA, and I have been to a bunch. It's very old-school and no BS. Not a place to lounge--its a place to get in, eat, and then find a nice place post-meal to hang out with this glow around you.
i have been eating at shabu shabu for so long i cant even remember when i first started.. the food is magnificent, the owner who heads the full shift is most helpful to first timers how to cood and eat the japanese delicacy. just prepare yourself for a long wait, unless you know when it wont be very busy. you still have to wait at least half hour. come on weekdays. sunday is the busiest.
Incredible taste, fun atmosphere and worth the wait! I was introduced to this place 2 months ago and we have been there about 10 times. I promise you will love the experience and the food. Recommendation.....don't bring children under 10. this is a fast pace eating experince and difficult to cook your food and your childs. Be prepared to become addicted to Shabu Shabu of LA. I have been to several others. They are ok, but truly no comparison. Good luck!!!!
Well, I hate the wait of anywhere from 30 in 100 degree days to 1 1/2 hrs when weather are in the 40-50's, but that doesn't stop me from going back at least twice a month; so yes, I LOVE the food.
The service you get depends on who's serving you. As long as you don't ask for too much you're ok.
The portion aren't big enough for big eaters without rice, but at that price and the quality of the meat one can't expect too much. Just order another plate.
In Sum, you know it's good when people are standing more than 1 hours waiting outside in freezing cold weather. Good things comes to those who wait.
