Description

Everyone talks about this place. Good food, good crowd and good service is what completes Daikokuya. This authentic Japanese food joint's specialty is the Daikoku Raumen soup, pork and egg combination dish. You might just get confused as to what to order from the extensive variety of Ramens on offer. They kind of have an open-air kitchen where you can actually watch the chefs make your meal. There is a long waiting list at most times out here. But the wait is worth!

Highly over rated!. We visited from out of town and tried this restaurant based on good reviews.. We waited for over an hour to be seated. The staff had a very nonchlant, unfriendly attitude. I ordered their standard ramen noodle and was surprised when the egg, meat and other ingredints were actually cold! In other words I had a bowl of lukewarm noodles. The chicken teriyaki had too much honey in it. The booth was broken and the restaurant looked rundown. The place looks nothing like their web site depicts. For ramen go elsewhere

hot steamy noodles
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/18/10
Everyone said this is the best ramen place in Little Tokyo. It was evident that this place was popular because of the long wait on a Saturday mid-afternoon. Don't go on a hot day and sit at the bar/long table because they cook the noodles in front of there and you'll die of the heat

I love this place. it's da bomb. I love their original pork and fried rice. It's worth the wait. Usually 1/2 hour.

besides the cha-siu, noodle and fried rice are both obviously not as good as the HQ in LA i got there @ off-peak hour when there's no one else but the people already seated, plenty of space and waiter insitsted us to write names on the board and called us the same time we wrote our names on the board, wtf?

Pretty basic Japanese ramen
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/13/09
Daikokuya is located in Little Tokyo. It has very unique and interesting atmosphere. Their ramen, however, was not so unique to me. It was very basic ramen and service was ok.

Great Ramen
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/18/08
There's just something about their ramen, actually the soup base, that stands out from the other ramen places. Or maybe it's everything else they put in it. So buttery and good - so bad for you, but so good! There is a wait since a lot of folks flock this place.

The cabbage salad is great! The fried rice was good but if you're into spicy noodles this isn't the place for you. Their soup base is made with pork and it is very milky. I think Orochon noodles is a better place.

This place is awesome, I love the combo plates, they cook per order, I know the wait to get a table is long and the wait to get your food cooked is about 20 minutes but they have large portions and you know your food has not been sitting under warmers all day. Highly recommended for those that love ramen, rice bowls and japanese food other that sushi or sashimi.

Excellent ramen!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/5/07
Daikokuya is a MUST if you are visiting Little Tokyo for the first time! The restaurant is famous for their delicious ramen bowl which comes with a hard-boiled egg, pork-based soup, pork slices, bamboo, and lots of chopped green onions. It's simply delicious and I've recommended this place to so many of my friends. If you are a big eater, I recommend the Combination special with the ramen and teriyaki chicken. It always comes with a cabbage salad with delicious miso dressing! But because the restaurant is so small, seating is very limited so get to the restaurant early!! Anytime before 7 is optimal because the waiting list can get extremely long.
