Guelaguetza is popular for the delectable mole sauce served here. The menu has a wide selection to choose from, including traditional Oaxacan delicacies, and it wouldn't hurt to try something new each time, considering that everything is really good! The Chocolate de Oaxaca Guelaguetza is a must-try dessert specialty. There is a lot of parking space, however avoid going during rush hours since this place seems to be a little understaffed.
This place is soooo Good, so many different types of moles yummy! I like the tamale with black mole on top and the chips they give you with the mole and queso on top yum-yum. The Mariachi is great too and it's a fun enviorment it seem's like your really in Mexico! Ariba-Ariba!!!
the interior walls are decorated with dia de la muerte dolls and the token sombrero, but the establishment is cozy, warm, and welcoming. the clientele is a mix of ethnic latinos, ucla students, and locals from the palms/mar vista neighborhood.
now the food- the meal starts out with tortilla chips and black mole to taste with queso fresco. try the michilada, a bloody mary on beer, or for the non-alcoholic, the horchata, a sweet rice drink.
the entrees are reasonably priced and with so many choices: red, black, yellow, green mole- we recommend ordering a few to consume family style. we love the tamales, vegetarian and beef, with mole or spicy tomato sauce inside. the portions are generous, one tamale will suffice for 2 meals. the empanadas are good, but a little dry on the outside. the enchiladas are better. the clayuda is a giant pizza on a baked tortilla, but ours tasted burnt. we skimmed off the top and still enjoyed it.
the service is a bit slow, but responsive. not a place to come in a hurry.
great prices, excellent service and great food. plus on the olympic location live music daily. what more can you ask for also it has a great home like feel while you dine in the resturant. once you step in you feel like you are literally in oaxaca mexico. nice walk up bar that serves tequila, mezcal just to name a few drinks.
the comment the other person wrote about needing to be gringo to get great service if false, the three times ive been there i have always gotten great service and im no gringo.
Rude parking attendant. Bare and cheap interior. Horrible food. The enchilada and mole were way too sweet. Or the food was tasteless. My chorizo was dry and barely had a salami like taste--not a chorizo taste. My wife s quesadilla was tasteless. A Mexican TV dinner would have tasted better. Overpriced for this (low) quality food
i love this place and i die to go back. if you love horchatas this is the place to go. and their food, it is the best ever. every time i go to LA i have a hard time looking for a good authentic mexican place. cant go wrong with la guelaguetza!!!! ive been to both and i love them both. the one on 8th street more smaller and the one on olympic lot more elegant and classy. i personaly love the one on 8th street.
