Yang Chow, Pasadena

Easy 4.5 stars here. I've had a few people take me here when asking for good Chinese food. When a neighbor lady, 85 years old, used to own her own restaurant in D.C., took me here, I knew for sure. All the dishes are excellent. I've had a few that I didn't like as well as others but on another day they were fine. If you have a bad dish send it back, they are very capable of making it right. My fav is the three ingredient something or other. Can't recall the exact name. It's on the menu of course. The only negative I can say is sometimes, and that's not the norm, the service is lacking. Could be I don't speak Chinese. I get the feeling some waiters are racist.

This is easily the best restaurant in Chinatown. I've never been there where they weren't full with at least one serving of slippery shrimp at every table. A must-try!

Great food - it's fresh, not greasy, and tastes great. Have recommended to many. Those who have tried it love it - especially the slippery shrimp. Have validated parking which is a plus. Metered parking when back lot is full.

WHO EVER WROTE THE LAST REVIEW IS ON CRACK COCAINE!!! YANG CHOW IS VERY GOOD AND THE SERVICE IS FANTASTIC! I LIKE TO CALL THEM NINJAS,BECAUSE WHEN EVER YOU NEED ANYTHING YOU DONT EVEN HAVE TO LOOK AROUND YOU BLINK AND IT'S ALREADY THERE FOR YOU! WHEN I GO I HAVE THE THREE FLAVOR SIZZELING RICE SOUP, BE CAREFULL ITS VERY HOT AS IN HEAT NOT SPICE. WE ALSO GET THE FRIED SHRIMP THAT COMES WITH THIS SWEET AND SOUR SAUCE,SLIPPERY SHRIMP IS A MUST! FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T LIKE SPICY (LIKE ME) YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR IT LIGHT ON SPICE AND OF COURSE SOME WHITE RICE. YUM DELICIOUSE I THINK I WILL GO TONIGHT! MIND YOU, I DRIVE FROM POMONA TO L.A. JUST FOR YANG CHOW!!!!! BIT OF ADVISE, RESERVE A TABLE SO YOU WON'T THINK IT'S BAD SERVICE! YOU WILL HAVE A LONG WAIT IF YOU DON'T! I GIVE IT TWO THUMBS UP IF I HAD MORE I WOULD!

This restaurant is so over rated its sad. It is the second time we got food from this place that the food was just bland, I mean just plain tasteless. We got the slippery shrimp the first time and believe it or not it did not have any taste at all and we could just taste only the batter, that we had to keep pealing the batter off the shrimp. The second time we got combination fried rice and the rice was so oily and no taste at all, they did not even add salt and the meat was just all fat and pork, in a big carton of rice there was only about 5 shrimp and all pork, Like i want to die of pork, very disgusting restaurant and We will never go there again.

Wow - I have no idea how anybody can give their food a bad review - especially the Slippery Shrimp. Some weekends my wife and I make the 180 mile round trip just for our favorite dish. Now the service - sure, somewhat lacking at times...seems like they are doing you a favor by letting you eat there! :) The ambience - yep, crowded and not that comfortable. But the line of people out the door virtually every lunch and dinner hour says says that this place has something to offer. For those of you pointing to other cities where ALL the chinese restaruants blow this one away - how about posting some specific suggestions - I would love to try out the competition without having having to do all the experimenting on my own dime!

I want to know what is it with this place? it aint that good people. Okay....I am chinese, that doesn't make me an expert. But the wait, the tables so close together...what is the draw? I find the service just fair, the food is okay. Sorry it seems most of my non Asian work friends are blown away by this place. I would rather go to 6 other places in Alhambra and Monterey Park.

You know I took an Asian friend to Yang Chow and with her hating everything, I haven't gone Back. I think I'll stick to Panda Inn
